ControllerResources for the Future (RFF) is seeking a Controller to direct and manage all Finance department functions including financial reporting, budget preparation, payroll, tax reporting, cash management, grants and contracts management, risk management, and daily accounting functions providing guidance on long-term departmental and organizational financial goals. The Controller will ensure that RFF has the systems and procedures in place to support effective program implementation and conduct flawless audits. Principal Duties and ResponsibilitiesManage and oversee all financial systems to ensure timely, accurate and high-quality data.Manage preparation of periodic financial reports to management and the Board of Directors including the preparation of analytic narratives that summarize financial results in terms of the organization's business operations.Plan the development of the organization's annual operating budget to provide an annual financial guide to business activities by developing a set of basic assumptions, designing and implementing systems to collect departmental inputs, and preparing analytical narratives that explain the objectives of the budget to management and the Board of Directors.Manage organizational cash flow forecasting by working in partnership with the Director of Development and the Grants and Contracts Manager. Assist the Vice President for Finance and Administration (VPFA) in the development of long-term financial plans and programs.Monitor the preparation of the organization's semi-monthly payroll and all related monthly, quarterly, and annual processing requirements.Lead the accounting and finance team to ensure timely monthly closing. Prepare monthly financial reports and review with the VPFA.Work closely with external auditors to complete annual financial statement audit and retirement plan audit within established deadlines and fees. Oversee production, review, and submission of IRS Forms 990 and other tax report filings.Enhance, develop, implement and monitor financial accounting policies and procedures. Monitor and update internal controls over financial reporting. Monitor, evaluate, and maintain internal controls over disbursements and federal grants.Oversee all grants and contracts accounting, invoicing and cash receipts; ensure that expenditures are consistently aligned with grant and contract budgets throughout the grant/contract period; oversee financial reporting materials for all government, multilateral and other institutional grants and contracts.Review reports for federal grants and ensure federal grants are closed out as budget period ends. Review financial reports for foundation, corporate and individual donors.Manage and oversee all financial systems to ensure timely, accurate and high-quality data.Manage and track the performance of invested assets in keeping with policies and investment guidelines.Administer the credit card.Monitor and comply with laws and regulations. Review indirect cost rates prepared by the Grants and Contracts Manager. Negotiate federal indirect cost rates.Enforce departmental and company policies and procedures. Suggest process improvements.Direct the performance, evaluation, and professional development of the accounting and finance staff.
