Minimum Education Requirement:
A. Degree: You must have a bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university OR a combination of education and experience equivalent to the completion of a bachelor's degree. Studies must have included at least 24 semester hours of mathematics and statistics, 12 of which must be in mathematics and 6 of which must be in statistics.
B. Combination of education and experience -- at least 24 semester hours of mathematics and statistics, including at least 12 hours in mathematics and 6 hours in statistics, as shown in A above, plus appropriate experience or additional education.
In addition to the above requirements, you must also meet the following:
Specialized Experience: For the GS-13, you must have one year of experience at a level of difficulty and responsibility equivalent to the GS-12 grade level in the Federal service. Experience for this position includes designing, planning and implementing production, research and evaluation projects for survey and/or census activities using mathematical statistical theory and statistical methodology; implementing various statistical methods such as sample design, selection and maintenance, nonresponse reweighting, imputation and estimation procedures, and Bayesian analysis; demonstrated facility with statistical computing software and routines to implement statistical methodology; experience assigning and reviewing the work of other staff, and resolving issues. Experience selecting and validating samples in large-scaled surveys, and maintaining/updating the samples throughout the survey life cycle. Experience with both design-based and model-based estimation methods and good communication skills.
Education cannot be substituted for experience at this grade level.

- Knowledge of, or ability to comprehend, and ability to communicate various statistical methods, such as those used for sampling, weighting, estimation, and quality control, to staff members.
- Ability to write and run computer programs to implement statistical methodology for production, research and evaluation purposes.
- Ability to communicate assignments, milestones, deadlines and solve work problems related to statistical processes such as sampling, weighting, estimation, or quality control.
