Requirements

The Financial Aid Counselor provides counseling services to current and prospective students, and their families, regarding financial aid processe s , procedure s , and programs.

The Counselor's duties include but are not limited to:
  • Understands and communicates information about all federal, state, private, and in s titutional loan, grant, and work programs.
  • Reviews and processes financial aid applications and supports financial aid programs and initiatives.
  • As part of the application process, awards dollars, maintains financial aid records, updates student data, monitors status, and ensures compliance with applicable laws , regulations, and University or Law Center Policy .
  • Manages a large active caseload, processes applications, counsels students, and administers dollars related to scholarship, loan, and work programs, including detailed application review, audit, financial counseling, monitoring enrollment status, and the review and understanding of emergency circumstances.
  • C ross trains across programs and provides primary and secondary support for various initiatives throughout the year.


Qualifications
  • Bachelor's D egree
  • F inancial counseling, customer service , and administrative experience
  • Demonstrated ability to collect and analyze data, communicate clearly, and use independent and appropriate judgement with a diverse client population
  • Commitment to continuous quality improvement and customer service
  • General understanding of federal, state and financial aid programs
  • Experience with Banner, COG NOS, and higher education preferred
