As a vital member of the SRMH executive team, the Vice President for Medical Affairs (VPMA) serves as the primary liaison to the SRMH Medical Staff. The VPMA advises supports, educates and mentors the leaders of the SRMH Medical Staff to ensure that the medical staff functions of the organized medical staff, as detailed in the Medical Staff By-Laws and Rules & Regulations, are carried out in an effective and efficient manner including governing, credentialing and peer review functions. The VPMA assists in assuring positive interdisciplinary communication between the Hospital, the formal Medical Staff and the Office of the Chief Physician Executive of Sentara Healthcare. The VPMA assists in coordinating performance improvement, resource management, and patient quality and safety-related activities of the hospital and assures that the PI/UM plans of the hospital meet the requirements of the DNV Accreditation of Health Care Organizations and other regulatory bodies. The Vice President, Medical Affairs provides leadership and supervision for operating units as assigned.

Qualifications

Education Level
Doctor of Medicine

Experience
A minimum of five years of active practice in area of specialization. At least 3 years of experience in hospital, medical group, private practice or medical staff leadership roles. Demonstrated experience leading departmental operations preferred. Experience in successfully engaging employed and affiliated physicians.

License
Required: Medical Doctor. Board certification in specialty required. Eligible for active physician license by Virginia Board of Medicine

Skills
Required: Communication, Complex Problem Solving, Judgment and Decision Making, Negotiation, Systems Evaluation, Conflict Resolution, Change Management, Process Improvement. Knowledgeable of contemporary practice issues within medicine, and outcomes measurement of clinical quality and utilization. Must be familiar with all aspects of hospital operations.
