Sentara CarePlex Hospital RN Adult Health Rotation Team

The program is open to new graduate RNs . They will orient on Medical-Surgical units and be classified as Adult Health Rotation RNs. The RN will receive full-time benefits and new grad pay with the addition of working on a Rotation Team to provide a variety of clinical experiences. All General Medicine and Surgical units participate in the AHEART Program.
The Orientation Process
  • 2 year commitment to SCH - 1 st year -rotate thru Medical and Surgical units working 12 hour shifts; assignments will be made by Manager and Director.
  • Orientation 14 weeks: including 2 weeks of onboarding with 11 weeks clinical orientation and 1 shadow week.
  • Orient, in rotation, with Medical-Surgical preceptors from participating units:
  • 2 weeks onboarding
  • 4 weeks on 1 st Rotation
  • 3 weeks on 2 nd Rotation
  • 2 weeks on 3 rd Rotation
  • 2 weeks on 4 th Rotation
  • 1 week of electives: (wound & ostomies, IV skills, and see preference sheet) choose shadow opportunities* or return to one of the prior rotations.
  • *shadow opportunities: specialty areas - FMC, PACU, ED, etc.
    After Orientation Completion
  • Participation in Nurse Residency Program
  • Participation in Mentoring Program
  • Post Orientation: Nurses will be assigned on General Medicine and Surgical units in 12 week rotations.
  • 12 months off of orientation - may apply to any Sentara CarePlex Med-Surg nursing unit.
  • During the 2nd year, 18 months- may apply to any Sentara CarePlex Specialty unit of choice or may apply to Sentara CarePlex Resource Pool. 24 months (2 years) - may apply to Division or Regional Resource Pool or to any unit within Sentara Healthcare.

New Hire Education Requirement: All Registered Nurses who do not have their BSN will be required to sign a BSN Agreement committing to successfully obtain their BSN within 5 years of hire. BSN or MSN preferred. Meets and maintains any requirements defined by specific specialty; Critical Care/IMCU/EP/Advanced Heart Failure Center/SMG Cardiology Practices- ACLS within 1 year of hire; Emergency Care - ACLS & PALS or ENPC within 1 year of hire; Oncology Care ONS/ONCC or Sentara approved course Chemotherapy & Biotherapy Provider Card within 6 months of hire. Women's Care - Perinatal departments; NRP within 6 months of hire. Inpatient Pediatrics. PALS within 6 months of hire. All Direct Care RN's required to have BLS within 90 days of hire.
