Job Description

The Washington Post is seeking a highly motivated and talented Digital Design Intern to join our Digital Design team this summer. The right candidate must be a proactive problem-solver, possessing innovative design skills and a willingness to collaborate on group projects. The Digital Design team plays a key role in the development of our marketing collateral and digital advertising capabilities. This individual will work closely with the Creative Director, other Digital Designers, Advertising Operations and RED (ad research, experimentation and development) team to execute various ad campaigns and marketing solutions.

Position Duties:
  • Work closely with Marketing Managers to develop custom collateral for proposals that promote various Washington Post platforms
  • Coordinate with the Marketing team to create promotional materials that drive revenue and maintain brand integrity
  • Develop and maintain a library of high-quality creative executions across platforms, stock imagery, templates, spec guidelines, demo videos, etc.
  • Identify and develop new ad products and solutions that meet client and market needs and position The Washington Post as a leader in innovative digital advertising solutions
  • Present digital advertising solutions to clients/brands/agencies and to internal teams
  • Collaborate with the Creative Director and other Digital Designers to build digital advertisements for multiple clients


Candidate Requirements:
  • Currently enrolled in a design-related school curriculum
  • Advanced proficiency in the Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, InDesign, Illustrator minimum)
  • Working knowledge of HTML builders (i.e. Celtra, Google Web Designer)
  • HTML5 experience
  • Ability to conceptualize and execute digital campaigns and display advertising including animation and interactivity for desktop and mobile
  • Digital video, animation, and motions graphics experience a plus
  • Understanding of typography, illustration, composition and color theory
  • Familiarity with UI and UX design principles
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office
  • Experience in print, web and presentation design, including PowerPoint and Keynote
  • Must be a team player who thrives in a collaborative environment
  • Must be comfortable following direction and implementing changes, while balancing strong design and tight deadlines
