Sentara Heart Hospital has 115 all-private rooms, 62 pre/post procedural rooms for patients undergoing interventional cardiac procedures and several outpatient cardiac clinics.

Responsibilities:

Clinical Nurse Manager has 24/7 responsibility/ accountability for daily operations of the 5 operating rooms and will oversee 70 direct reports

Supervision of patient care for patient safety, high quality outcomes/care & exceptional patient/family experiences/staff mentorship

Developing & monitoring departmental budget, payroll processes, & purchasing equipment/supplies & achieve departmental/financial goals

Interviewing, hiring, developing, performance reviews, and retaining staff with the goal of developing a highly reliable work team

Teamwork/ collaboration with leaders

Cardiac Surgical Department Overview:
We are made up of five operating rooms with one being a hybrid OR. We handle
8+ OR cases daily.

Nurses work with a multi-disciplinary team of Cardio-thoracic Surgeons, OR attendant, Surgical Techs, Surgical Assistants, Per fusionists, Anesthesiologists, Cardiovascular Technologists, and Physician Assistants.

The cardiovascular operating room nurse works as part of the surgical services and operating room teams that treat open-heart (cardiovascular) patients.
  • Prepares OR Room, ensures equipment and medications are available for the operating room team
  • Reviews patient's chart
  • Assesses patient upon admission and through procedure
  • Prep and positions patient in OR
  • Administers medication, monitor vital signs during procedure
  • Documents information
  • Provides a call report to the ICU floor nurse after the surgical procedure
  • Prepares OR for the next case
