As a Jet Bridge Mechanic Leader, you will lead and train a team in troubleshooting, maintaining, and repairing Airports Authority Passenger Boarding Bridges (Jet Bridges), Pre-Conditioned Air Units, and Aircraft Ground Power Units.

Jet Bridge Mechanic Leader

Serves in Maintenance Shop 1 in the Equipment Maintenance Division, Airport Maintenance Department at Washington Dulles International Airport (IAD).

Leads and trains Heavy Equipment Mechanics, Electro-Mechanics, and Apprentices in troubleshooting, repairing, overhauling, and performing preventive maintenance on passenger boarding bridges (Jet Bridges) and associated components including mechanical, electrical, aircraft ground power (GPUs), and aircraft pre-conditioned air (PCAIR) units.

GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES

Serves as the lead troubleshooting expert and quality control technician on Airports Authority-maintained Passenger Boarding Bridges at Washington Dulles International Airport.

Monitors Jet Bridge service calls and opens work orders and prioritizes troubleshooting and repairs on recurring service calls.

Troubleshoots complex, troublesome, and recurring Jet Bridge failures and discrepancies.

Informs supervisor(s) of workload estimates and coordinates with tool and parts attendants for needed equipment, materials, tools, and parts.

Coordinates with Planner/Scheduler for the scheduling of work with Airport Operations and affected Airlines.

Recommends changes to Preventive Maintenance Program to address or correct recurring or known discrepancies and deficiencies.

Oversees journey-level mechanics and electro-mechanics to troubleshoot recurring failures and perform repairs for the completion of upgrades, modifications, projects, and retrofits.

Serves as the lead technical representative to consultants and contractors performing repairs and rehabilitation services.

Serves as the technical expert in the review of boarding bridge capital projects from the perspective of maintainability and reliability. Assists in developing specifications and statements of work for solicitations.

Works safely on energized and de-energized high-voltage systems and industrial equipment and employs and utilizes lock-out, tag-out procedures.

Anticipates system failures and makes corrections prior to realization of a fleet-wide problem.

Works with the investigation team to determine if mechanical failures are at fault and if so takes appropriate action.

Routinely makes quality control inspections to ensure safe and acceptable maintenance practices are adhered to by journey-level mechanics.

Works with project engineers and contract personnel to ensure new systems integrate with existing technology.

Identifies problems requiring design modifications, mechanical upgrades, or long-range projects. Estimates costs and justifies the purchase of new tools and equipment.

Reviews work in progress and upon completion for usage of accepted trade practices and for compliance with directives and Occupational Safety and Health Administration regulations. Inspects shop tools and equipment to ensure they are serviceable and safe.

Informs supervisor about performance and training needs of individual employees. Researches and recommends recurring and ad-hoc training to ensure mechanics are qualified for current and future maintenance requirements.

Resolves minor employee conflicts and complaints and ensures safety, conduct, and housekeeping rules are observed.

May substitute for the Shift Supervisor, in that person's absence.

Performs other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS

Five years of progressively responsible experience in the repair and maintenance of passenger boarding bridges at a large-hub airport that includes substantive work in mechanical, electrical, 400 Hz Aircraft Ground Power Units, and Pre-Conditioned Air units, components and electrical troubleshooting.

Ability to lead projects or work groups, including assigning and reviewing immediate tasks to the group, setting the pace, and checking work in progress and on completion.

Journey level knowledge of and ability to personally perform and to lead others in the maintenance and repair of passenger boarding bridges and associated systems, subsystems, assemblies, and parts.

Journey level skill in troubleshooting, modifying, and making repairs and fitting, installing, and adjusting boarding bridge components.

Knowledge of the safety rules, regulations, and procedures needed to lead others in working safely.

Ability to analyze data and information (diagrams and schematics) to perform work.

Ability to speak and write effectively.

Skill in using a computer, computerized work order, and time and attendance system.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Master HVAC Trades License

Master Electrician Trades License

Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) Universal Refrigerant Certification

EDUCATION

A high school diploma or a Certificate of General Educational Development (GED).

CERTIFICATIONS AND LICENSES REQUIRED

A state driver's license in good standing.

Licensed as a Class B Commercial Driver (CDL) within 90 days of hire, promotion, or placement into the position.

NECESSARY SPECIAL FACTORS

Operates vehicle landside and airside (requires AOA permit).

Work is typically reviewed in progress and upon completion for quantity, quality, timeliness, teamwork, customer service, and other factors.

Is subject to hold over and recall on a 24-hour basis for essential services and emergencies such as snow removal.

May bend, crouch, and work in cramped positions; carries/moves objects weighing up to 100 pounds. May work in elevated positions requiring the use of fall protection, climb ladders, and operate self-propelled elevating personnel lifts.

Is subject to possible electrical shock, falls from large mobile equipment, burns, slips on oily flooring, and hazardous fumes and substances. May work for prolonged periods of time in noise levels in excess of 105db. Wears personal protective equipment as necessary.

May work for prolonged periods in adverse outdoor weather conditions to include heat, cold, wind, sunlight, and noise.
