Education Director, The Edunomics Lab - Georgetown University's McCourt School of Public Policy

Edunomics Lab is looking for a project manager, communicator and strategist who is eager to expand its education and training programs. The Edunomics Lab, a Research Center in the Georgetown's Mccourt School of Public Policy was established thanks to a Sl.9M grant from the Walton Family Foundation, studies education finance, and provides timely, relevant, and insightful analysis to inform education policy and practice. Since its establishment at Georgetown in November 2012 the Edunomics Lab has received additional grant and contract funding to complete research vital to strengthening American education system, the need for which is especially pronounced during difficult budget times. The is a term position and is dependent on future external funding.

The Education Director is a team player who will work closely with our research team to expand the reach of their work at a t i me when the very education finance issues we explore-like resource equity, school productivity, innovat i on and financial data transparency-are making headlines.As part of a small, nimble team, the Education Director will work on a wide range of functions critical to the operation of an academic research center including:
  • Manage our new Certificate in Education Finance and coordinate ongoing training efforts at national conferences, as members of external committees, and promote custom programming.
  • Work closely with the center leadership to design and deliver one-of-a-kind training opportunities to policymakers, advocacy groups and education leaders at all levels of the system (federal, state, district and school).
  • Draft grant applications and reports as well as disseminate research findings through presentations and trainings.
  • Primary project manager working directly with center leadership to design and build a self-sustaining training program.

This position is essential in order for the Center to ensure completion of critical grant and contract milestones and to create thorough, rich, and insightful work that tackles difficult and systemic problems facing public education today.

Qualifications .
  • Bachelor's degree required
  • Have at least 5 years working in business strategy, development and/or project management in policy setting
  • Demonstrate strong interpersonal skills critical to building certificate cohorts and alumni networks
  • Can clearly communicate complex ideas both orally and in writing to a broad array of audiences, including funders and customers
  • Demonstrate an understanding of fiscal policy and current trends in education finance
  • Fluent with Excel, Word and preferably with WordPress
  • Demonstrate exceptional writing and editorial skills for the preparation of program materials, manuals, research reports, correspondence and program text
  • Clear communication with internal team well as with key audiences (e.g. policy-makers, funders and education leaders)
  • Willing to work independently within a team
  • Have exceptionally strong organizational and time management skills
  • Ability to independently establish objectives, plan, direct and evaluate logistics/training activities

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Advanced degree preferred (MPP, MBA, MPA)
  • Relevant work experience in education

Candidates should be able to work from Seattle, WA or the Washington, DC metro region. Tele-work is possible.
