Group Fitness Instructor (Temporary, Part Time), Yates Field House - Main Campus
The Yates Memorial Field House was built to meet the recreational, instructional, and intramural sport needs of the entire University Community. As the primary recreation facility for Georgetown University, Yates offers comprehensive recreational programming to serve the needs of university students, faculty and staff.
The Group Fitness Instructor works with the Group Fitness program, which provides students and members with an opportunity to participate in a variety of group fitness offerings that encourage and support a healthy lifestyle in a fun environment. S/he interacts with Georgetown University students, faculty and staff as well as Yates Field House community members, allowing them to become a positive influence in the community, encouraging individuals to partake in a holistic, healthy lifestyle. Reporting to the Director of Fitness and Wellness, the Group Fitness Instructor has duties that include but are not limited to:
- Display an open and friendly attitude while creating a well-designed class.
- Provide knowledge of anatomy/kinesiology/biomechanics and well-timed cueing to music and movements.
- Establish energetic environment, providing proper warm-up, workout, and cool down exercises.
- Offer adequate safety tips for form and a safe speed of music for the given population.
- Offer a variation of movements for different physical capabilities.
Qualifications
- Knowledge of basic anatomy, physiology, biomechanics, group class structure, proper form, and cueing
- Successful completion of Group Fitness/Exercise Instructor course and a national certification from a reputable certifying organization (such as ACE, AFAA, Zumba, or Mad Dogg)
- First Aid/CPR/AED certification
- Engaging and self-motivated individual with a passion for helping individuals achieve their fitness goals
- Excellent verbal and nonverbal communication skills
