  • GS-12 QUALIFICATIONS
    To qualify for the GS-12 position, you must meet both the four IT competencies AND the one year of specialized experience described below.

    IT Competencies:
    1. Attention to Detail- monitor information systems or networks to ensure compliance of security measures.
    2. Customer Service- provide guidance to stakeholders on cybersecurity policies,
    3. Oral Communication-communicate the importance of IT security clearly throughout the organization to maintain standards.
    4. Problem Solving- identify software designs for potential security risks.
    Specialized Experience:
    In addition to meeting the IT Competencies described above, you qualify for the GS-12 grade level (starting salary $83,398) if you possess one year of specialized experience at the GS-11 grade level performing the following duties:
    1. Assisting in the development of information security plans designed to prevent information systems vulnerabilities.
    2. Monitoring information systems to ensure compliance with security policies.
    3. Reviewing proposed new systems, networks, and software designs for potential IT security risks.
    4. Analyzing IT cybersecurity issues and identifying solutions.

    GS-13 QUALIFICATIONS
    To qualify for the GS-13 position, you must meet both the four IT competencies AND the one year of specialized experience described below.

    IT Competencies:
    1. Attention to Detail-review new systems or networks to implement appropriate security measures.
    2. Customer Service- work closely with customers to evaluate and provide insight on system requirements.
    3. Oral Communication- communicate with senior leadership on cybersecurity initiatives and potential issues.
    4. Problem Solving- identify and resolve infrastructure cybersecurity vulnerabilities.

    Specialized Experience:
    In addition to meeting the IT Competencies described above, you qualify for the GS-13 grade level (starting salary $99,172) if you possess one year of specialized experience at the GS-12 grade level performing the following duties:
    1. Developing and implementing information security plans designed to prevent information systems vulnerabilities.
    2. Monitoring information systems to ensure compliance with security policies and determining if changes/upgrades are necessary.
    3. Reviewing proposed new systems, networks, and software designs for potential IT security risks.
    4. Preparing and delivering briefings to senior officials to address cybersecurity issues and proposing recommendations to improve the infrastructure environment.

    National Service Experience (i.e., volunteer experience): Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

    Current or Former Political Appointees: The Office of Personnel Management (OPM) must authorize employment offers made to current or former political appointees. If you are currently, or have been within the last 5 years, a political Schedule A, Schedule C, Non-career SES or Presidential Appointee employee in the Executive Branch, you must disclose this information to the Human Resources Office.
