    This position requires Individual Occupational Requirements (IOR) and Specialized Experience:
    Basic Requirements (IOR):
    1. Undergraduate Degree in history; or related field that includes at least 18 semester hours in history.
    OR
    1. Combination of education and experience: courses equivalent to a major in history, or a major in a related field that includes at least 18 semester hours in history, plus appropriate specialized experience. In addition to courses in the major and related fields, a typical college degree would have included courses that involved analysis, writing, critical thinking or research.
    Specialized Experience:
    To qualify, applicants must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade (GS-14) in Federal or other service in the normal line of progression for the occupation in the organization. Specialized experience is defined as work that involved: 1) planning, developing and carrying out a nationwide historical program for acquisition, preservation, restoration, reconstruction and interpretation; 2) overseeing a historical program including a building of objects, scientific artifacts or articles of cultural interest with major significance and/or of national heritage; 3) related Contracting Officer Representative (COR) experience managing collaborative historical projects with nation-wide impacts; 4) Directing, coordinating, and overseeing the work of subordinate supervisors and staff associated with managing a historical program.

    Note: Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religions; spiritual; community; student; social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge and skills, and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience you document, to include volunteer experience.

    Work Schedule: 8:00 AM - 4:30 PM. Alternate work schedules are available.

    Promotion Potential: It is expected that this position will be filled at the full-performance level of grade GS-15.

    Physical Requirements: The work is sedentary. Typically the employee may sit comfortably to do the work. However, there may be some walking, standing, bending or carrying of light items such as papers and books. No special physical demands are required to perform the work.     Receiving Service Credit for Earning Annual (Vacation) Leave: Federal employees earn annual leave at a rate (4, 6 or 8 hours per pay period) which is based on the number of years they have served as a Federal employee. VA may offer newly-appointed federal employee's credit for their job-related non-federal experience or active duty uniformed military service. This credited service can be used in determining the rate at which they earn annual leave. Such credit must be requested and approved prior to the appointment date and is not guaranteed.

    The Interagency Career Transition Assistance Plan (ICTAP) and Career Transition Assistance Plan (CTAP) provide eligible displaced Federal competitive service employees with selection priority over other candidates for competitive service vacancies.
