  • Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-05/08 grade level or NR-02 pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector performing most or all of the following duties: (1) utilizing subtractive machining (SM) techniques including: Grinding, Milling, Drilling, Turning, CNC Milling, CNC Turning and CNC Programming; (2) performing design or development work on fabricated devices utilizing knowledge of engineering principles, techniques, methods and precedents; (3) utilizing Additive Manufacturing (AM) software, metal and polymer AM hardware, safe AM stock storage procedures, and AM inventory control; (4) utilizing computer aided machining software and computer aided drafting software; and, 5) communicating with scientists and research engineers to form solutions and meet design requirements.

    This position has a selective placement factor that will be used to screen out ineligible candidates. The selective placement factor is: Experience with the setup, maintenance, repair and running a suite of advanced manufacturing machining centers based on additive manufacturing (AM), subtractive machining (SM) and hybrid manufacturing techniques.

    Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., professional, philanthropic, religious, spiritual, community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment.

    Substitution of Education for Experience:

    Graduate education or an internship meets the specialized experience required above GS-5 only in those instances where it is directly related to the work of the position. Two full years of graduate education or a master's degree meets the requirements for NR-03.

    Certification:Engineering technicians may be certified by the National Institute for Certification in Engineering Technologies, an organization sponsored by the National Society of Professional Engineers. Certification by the Institute will be helpful as a measure of the technician's quality of experience.
