    Basic Requirements:

    Degree: in operations research; or at least 24 semester hours in a combination of operations research, mathematics, probability, statistics, mathematical logic, science, or subject-matter courses requiring substantial competence in college-level mathematics or statistics. At least 3 of the 24 semester hours must have been in calculus.

    The GS-07 salary range starts at $47,016.00 per year.   If you are a new federal employee, your starting salary will likely be set at the Step 1 of the grade for which you are selected.

    To qualify, you must have at least one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-05 level or higher in the Federal service; and/or 2 years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to a master's degree or master's or equivalent graduate degree.

    Specialized experience is experience assisting senior Operations Research Analysts in the performance of a broad spectrum of technical and analytical duties and participating in the application of advanced mathematical and other scientific management analysis techniques to solve portions of difficult and complex projects to provide FAS management with a quantitative basis for reaching sound managerial business decisions.

    The GS-09 salary range starts at $57,510.00 per year.   If you are a new federal employee, your starting salary will likely be set at the Step 1 of the grade for which you are selected.

    To qualify, you must have at least one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-07 level or higher in the Federal service; and/or 2 years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to a master's degree or master's or equivalent graduate degree.

    Specialized experience is experience assisting members in the performance of a broad spectrum of technical and analytical duties; assisting senior Operations Research Analyst apply advanced mathematical and other scientific management analysis techniques to solve portions of difficult and complex projects.

    You will be evaluated for this job based on how well you meet the qualifications above.

    You will be scored on the questions you answer during the application process, which will measure your possession of the following competencies or knowledge, skills, and abilities:

     Ability to research, analyze, interpret, evaluate and perform difficult but well precedented assignments.

    Knowledge of and skill in applying principles, theories, concepts and methodology of Operations Research.

    Skill in oral communication to make formal and informal presentations to higher level management.

    Skill in written communication to formulate evaluations, analysis and reports.  

    Your answers to the questions will be used to place you in one of three categories:  Best Qualified, Well Qualified, or Qualified

    Your answers will be verified by your resume.  If your resume doesn’t support your answers, your score may be lowered which could place you in a lower category.

    Within each category, veterans will receive selection priority over non-veterans.

    If further assessments are used, you will be provided with instructions. If you are eligible under Interagency Career Transition Assistance Plan or GSA’s Career Transition Assistance Plan (ICTAP/CTAP), you must receive a score of 85 or higher to receive priority.
