  • Basic Requirements: You must have IT related experience demonstrating each of the following competencies:
    1) Attention to Detail - Is thorough when performing work and conscientious about attending to detail.
    2) Customer Service - Works with clients and customers to assess their needs, provide information or assistance, resolve their problems, and/or satisfy their expectations; knows about available products and services; is committed to providing quality products and services.
    3) Oral Communication - Expresses information to individuals or groups effectively, taking into account the audience and nature of the information; makes clear and convincing presentations; listens to others, attends to nonverbal cues, and responds appropriately.
    4) Problem Solving - Identifies problems; determines accuracy and relevance of information; uses sound judgment to generate and evaluate alternatives, and to make recommendations.

    To qualify for the GS-05, you must have:
    A. At least one year of IT-related experience equivalent to the GS-04 level in the Federal service; OR
    B. Successfully completed a full 4-year course of study leading to a bachelor's degree in a Computer or Information Science related field from an accredited college or university;

    To qualify for the GS-07, you must have:
    A. At least one year of IT-related specialized experience equivalent to the GS-05 level in the Federal service: 1) applying knowledge of basic IT principles and practices, and 2) gathering and analyzing basic facts and drawing conclusions; OR
    B. Successfully completed a full 4-year course of study leading to a bachelor's degree in a Computer or Information Science related field from an accredited college or university; and meet one of the Superior Academic Achievement (SAA) provisions. The SAA provisions include the following: 1) a grade point average (GPA) of 3.0 or higher for all completed undergraduate coursework or for all courses completed in the last two full years of undergraduate work; 2) a GPA of 3.5 or higher for all courses in the major field of study, or those courses in your major completed in the last two full years of undergraduate work; 3) ranking in the upper one-third of your college, university or major subdivision; or 4) membership in a national honor society (other than freshman honor societies) recognized by the Association of College Honor Societies; OR
    C. Successfully completed one full academic year of graduate education (18 units or equivalent) from an accredited college or university; OR
    D. Combination of appropriate specialized experience and graduate education.

    To qualify for the GS-09, you must have:
    A. At least one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-07 grade level in the Federal service: 1) applying IT principles, methods, and practices; and 2) using system information assurance and security methods and procedures; OR
    B. A master's or equivalent graduate degree in a Computer or Information Science related field; or two full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree; OR
    C. Some specialized experience as described in A, but less than one year; and have more than one year but less than two years of education as described in B.
