Applicants with considerable experience in higher education or industry may be considered for a higher rank appointment. Term faculty have promotion potential to the Associate and Full Professor ranks, but are not on a tenure track. The anticipated start date for this position is fall 2019, although an earlier appointment may be possible. George Mason University has a strong institutional commitment to the achievement of excellence and diversity among its faculty and staff, and strongly encourages candidates to apply who will enrich Mason's academic and culturally inclusive environment.

Responsibilities: Term faculty have a four course teaching load per semester and are expected to fully participate in the intellectual life of the Department and Program. Reduction in teaching load is possible for research-active faculty. There is opportunity to teach in the summer for additional salary. Other administrative responsibilities include coordinating the statistics concentration of the M.S. program, and coordinating the online teaching of the core DAEN course offered by the Department of Statistics.

Required Qualifications: Qualified applicants for Term Assistant Professor will hold a doctorate in Statistics or Biostatistics. Other related areas, such as, but not limited to, Data Science, Applied Mathematics, or Quantitative Business Analytics, with a strong background in statistical theory and methods, will be considered. Applicants who are finishing their doctoral dissertation can also apply, provided the degree will be conferred by the start date of employment. Applicants with considerable experience in higher education or industry may be considered for a higher rank appointment. Applicants should possess experience and enthusiasm for teaching statistics and data analysis, including analysis of massive data sets, and have experience in using technology in the classroom, including relevant data analytics and statistical software packages.

Preferred Qualifications: Experience with online, asynchronous delivery of classes.

It offers 3 M.S. degrees and a Ph.D. degree and includes a number of faculty working in fast-moving and cutting-edge areas of data analytics.
