Term Instructional Faculty and Associate Chair, Department of Bioengineering

The George Mason University Department of Bioengineering, within the Volgenau School of Engineering, invites applications for a full-time, non-tenure-track, instructional faculty position that includes associate department chair responsibilities. The faculty rank will be commensurate with experience. Mason's bioengineering department (https://bioengineering.gmu.edu/research) has 16 faculty members in four research pillars: biomedical imaging and devices, computational biomedicine, biomaterials and nanomedicine, neurotechnology and computational neuroscience. Newly constructed research facilities in these focus areas just opened in 2018. Bioengineering faculty research is funded by a number of federal agencies, including the National Institutes of Health (NIH), National Science Foundation (NSF), Department of Defense (DoD), and the United States Department of Veterans Affairs (VA), with over $20 million in active research funding. The department has a thriving ABET-accredited undergraduate program with over 250 undergraduate students, a new rapidly-growing PhD. program, and an MS program just launched in 2018. The department has several growing partnerships with regional centers such as the Inova Center for Personalized Health (ICPH https://www.inova.org/inova-center-for-personalized-health) which includes the Center for Surgery and Bioengineering Research (CSBR) and the Genomics and Bioinformatics Research Institute (GBRI).

Responsibilities: * Teaching core Bioengineering undergraduate and graduate courses, and develop electives in accordance with their area of expertise; * Managing the undergraduate and MS program; and * Student recruitment and outreach. Required Qualifications: * Candidates must have earned a doctorate, or be very near to completing this degree, in bioengineering, biomedical engineering, or a closely related field to apply for this position. * Terminal degree has to be awarded by the start date of the position. * Applicants must possess strong oral and written communication skills. Preferred Qualifications: Preference will be given to candidates with a combination of the following qualifications: * Teaching experience; * Record of peer-reviewed publications; * Demonstrated teaching expertise in one or more of the following areas: clinical biomedical engineering, bioinstrumentation, imaging, computational biomedicine, biomaterials, tissue engineering, nanomedicine, biomechanics, bioinformatics, biomedical signal processing, and physiological modeling.
