George Mason University (Mason), Virginia's largest public research institution, invites applications and nominations for the position of Dean of the School for Conflict Analysis and Resolution (S-CAR). The School for Conflict Analysis and Resolution Dean will need to be an entrepreneurial, visionary leader to propel the School forward and continue its number one ranking in the field according to School.com. George Mason University has a strong institutional commitment to the achievement of excellence and diversity among its faculty and staff, and strongly encourages candidates to apply who will enrich Mason's academic and culturally inclusive environment.

George Mason University

Mason is located in the Washington, DC metropolitan area, with close geographical access to the U.S. government, international organizations and major corporations across a myriad of industries. Mason enrolls 37,000 students from all 50 states and 130 countries on four campuses: a 677-acre campus in Fairfax, Virginia; a professional campus in Arlington, Virginia; a science and technology campus in Prince William County, Virginia; and an international campus in Songdo, Korea. Mason was founded as a branch of the University of Virginia in 1957 and became an independent institution in 1972. With 1,800 faculty, Mason offers 81 undergraduate degrees, 85 master's degrees and 39 doctoral degrees across ten schools and colleges.

Mason is ranked 14th in U.S. News and World Report's list of the most innovative national universities. The Carnegie Classification of Institutions of Higher Education includes Mason among institutions in the "Highest Research Activity" (R1) category, and U.S. News and World Report ranks Mason among the top 150 research universities in the United States. In recent years, two members of the Mason faculty have been awarded the Nobel Prize in Economics.

Mason prides itself on being an innovative and inclusive academic community committed to making the world more prosperous, free and just. As a public research university in one of the most important political, economic and intellectual hubs in the world, Mason accepts its responsibility of service to help its students succeed, to enrich the life of its community, and to contribute to solving some of the most complex global problems of our time. As reflected in its 2014-2024 Strategic Plan, Mason strives to be the best university for the world - to produce the types of graduates, research, scholarship and service-oriented action that will best serve society. Mason's innovative and entrepreneurial attitude and its culture of diversity and accessibility have served the university well over the past four decades. These characteristics - referred to as the Mason IDEA - highlight how the university defines itself and are central to its strategic plan. For more information about the Mason IDEA, go to: https://masonidea.gmu.edu/

Over 50% of Mason students are ethnic minorities, and they graduate at the same rate as other classmates, despite a significant national disparity in minority graduation rates. Over 36% of the university's undergraduates are first generation college students. In December 2015, Virginia Governor Terry McAuliffe announced a strategic partnership between Mason and Inova Health System (INOVA), the largest health system in Northern Virginia, to conduct translational research and share resources for the benefit of patients, the community, and the region. This collaboration will advance INOVA's personalized health vision, and is expected to lead to new patient cures and treatments for a variety of diseases, and to new diagnostic and therapeutic biomarkers and devices. This partnership establishes Northern Virginia as an epicenter for personalized medicine, attracting the best researchers and experts from around the country.
