"Assistant Professor, Experimental Condensed Matter Physics / Materials Science (Tenure Track)

The George Mason University, Department of Physics and Astronomy in the College of Science invites applicants for a Tenure-Track Assistant Professor position in experimental condensed matter physics or materials science beginning in August 2019. Responsibilities: The selected candidate will teach both undergraduate and graduate courses in Physics and/or other disciplines within the Department's curriculum, as well as perform standard departmental service activities and mentor students. The selected candidate will also be expected to establish an independent, externally-funded experimental research program that includes both graduate and undergraduate researchers, collaborative relationships with Departmental faculty, and other groups within and outside of the University. To that end, the selected finalist will be encouraged to leverage their research through collaborations with experimental facilities at the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST), the Naval Research Laboratory (NRL), and other government and industrial laboratories conveniently located in the geographical proximity of George Mason University.

Required Qualifications: Applicants must hold a PhD degree in physics, materials science or a closely-related field as of the first day of the appointment.

Preferred Qualifications: Postdoctoral research experience is strongly preferred. Preference will be given to candidates with experience in physical properties of hard materials, including structural and functional materials. However, all outstanding candidates will also be considered.
