"Assistant Professor of Microbiology (Tenure-Track)

The George Mason University Department of Biology, within the College of Science (COS), invites applications for a full-time, tenure-track Assistant Professor position in Microbiology, beginning August 2019. Responsibilities: The selected candidate is expected to develop and maintain a nationally recognized and externally funded research program in their area of expertise as well as teach and advise in the department's undergraduate and graduate programs. Teaching duties will include undergraduate and graduate courses in microbiology as well a graduate course in urban or community ecology. Teaching responsibilities will include courses at both the Fairfax and the Science and Technology campus in Manassas, Virginia.

Required Qualifications: * Completion of a Ph.D. in a relevant discipline as well as postdoctoral research experience; * Share the department's commitment to excellence in undergraduate and graduate instruction; * Demonstrated excellence in both teaching and research; and * The ability to collaborate with faculty and graduate students.
Preferred Qualifications: * The ideal candidate will have a proven record of external research funding. * The ideal candidate will have collaborations with members of the School of Systems Biology. * The ideal candidate will have access to significant resources at the Science and Technology campus, including the Microbiome Analysis Center, the Institute for Biomedical Research, and Biomedical Research Laboratory in the National Center for Biodefense and Infectious Disease.

About Us: The Department of Biology includes nine tenured and tenure-track and 13 term faculty. Within the next 18 months the department expects to add five new tenure-track faculty. The department has over 1350 undergraduate majors and hires 56 Graduate Teaching Assistants as well as adjuncts from around the Washington DC area per year. Faculty from our sister departments, Environmental Science and Policy and the School of Systems Biology collaborate with our department through teaching and research.
