AIM-VA Training and Technical Assistant Specialist

The Virginia Department of Education's (VDOE) Accessible Instructional Materials - Virginia project (AIM-VA), located in the George Mason University Helen A. Kellar Institute for Human Disabilities, is seeking an experienced and dynamic professional to serve as an AIM-VA Training and Technical Assistant Specialist. Responsibilities: This position will be focused on providing training and technical assistance related to accessible instructional reading materials to educators in school divisions and state-operated programs throughout Virginia. The incumbent will be responsible for the development and delivery of training materials and sessions that include eligibility requirements, school division readiness, and the support of accessible instructional materials (AIM) for students with IEPs in schools. Training and Technical assistance will be provided both face-to-face across the commonwealth and virtually through webinars and video conferencing.

Qualifications: This 12-month, grant-funded professional faculty position will require knowledge and experience in the following areas: (1) accessible instructional materials (2) federal and state special education accessibility standards; (3) K-12 students who have print-related disabilities; (4) integration of accessible instructional materials into the classroom and curriculum; (5) Virginia standards of learning and associated accountability testing; (6) universal design for learning; (7) reading strategies and implementation and (8) related assistive technology software/apps and devices, e.g., text-to-speech programs, screen readers, magnification applications, and annotation tools on multiple devices (iOS mobile, Chromebook, PCs, Mac, Android).

In addition, required qualifications include a master's degree in special education or a related field, proficiency in standard productivity programs (e.g., Microsoft, Adobe and Google), and demonstrated ability to rapidly develop new software and technology skills. Applicants must also have superior communication, writing and presentation skills; strong organizational skills, including attention to detail and the ability to multitask; and the ability to collaborate effectively as a key member of the AIM-VA team.
