The College of Health and Human Services at George Mason University (Mason) seeks an energetic and visionary leader to serve as the College's (Senior) Associate Dean for Academic Affairs. About the College The College of Health and Human Services at George Mason University comprises the following academic units: Global and Community Health; Health Administration, Policy and Informatics; Nursing; Nutrition and Food Studies; Rehabilitation Sciences; and Social Work fielding a variety of graduate and undergraduate programs (BS through PhD). The College has 7 academic programs that are externally accredited; several are nationally ranked. Expectations and Responsibilities The Associate Dean for Academic Affairs oversees the academic operations of the College, spanning all academic departments. The Associate Dean for Academic Affairs provides leadership to support the development of new degrees and courses, and supports decentralized program review and evaluation. The Dean also provides oversight for external accreditation processes and manages academic program procedures and policies for the College. The Associate Dean for Academic Affairs works effectively with the College's leadership, especially Department Chairs and faculty, in all aspects of the academic enterprise and its interface with students, faculty and university personnel working to ensure the quality and accountability of academic programs.

The Associate Dean for Academic Affairs will have research and teaching experience in a discipline in the College or one ordinarily found in a School or College of Public Health, and will teach a minimum of one course, annually. The Associate Dean for Academic Affairs represents the College when the Dean is not available to do so.

The position is a full-time (12-month) administrative faculty position with full benefits. Successful candidates will qualify for tenure at the rank of full professor. Candidates with demonstrated excellence in academic leadership beyond 12 years may be considered for appointment as Senior Associate Dean. This position reports directly to the Dean of the College.

Specific Duties Position duties include: * Oversees the academic enterprise ensuring excellence in all aspects; * Works with departments to develop innovative academic programs; * Leads and promotes a culture of educational excellence and innovation; * Provides leadership in the development of College academic policies and priorities; * Monitors academic performance metrics; * Oversees academic enrollment and enrollment planning; * Ensures academic enterprise is aligned with the College and University strategic plan and goals; * Coordinates faculty grievances and appeals processes in conjunction with the Associate Dean of Faculty Affairs; * Chairs committees and discharges other duties as assigned by the Dean; * Provides administrative and managerial oversight for staff; * Represents the College with its many internal (e.g. Academic committees) and external constituents. Required Qualifications * An earned doctorate from an accredited institution or the equivalent in an academic discipline or scientific field comprising the College or associated with Public Health; * Ability to think strategically and lead initiatives that effect and involve multiple constituencies of the College and University; * Previous experience working as a member of an academic leadership team; * Demonstrated expertise in effectively teaching undergraduate or graduate students; * Ability to think creatively in developing novel academic opportunities and strategies for traditional and non-traditional students and learning forums; * Excellent strategic planning, administrative, communication and interpersonal skills; * Ability to successfully utilize online systems for managing academic programs and teaching; * Ability to handle and manage sensitive information, and to support a culture of inclusion and diversity. Preferred Qualifications: * Experience in a research-intensive University; * Knowledge and experience with university academic operations; * Proficiency in designing and utilizing evaluation tools for assessing academic programs and allocation of resources; * Knowledge of and experience with the public health accreditation process; * Knowledge of and experience with State Accreditation entities such as the State Council of Higher Education for Virginia (SCHEV).
