The George Mason University School of Systems Biology (SSB), within the College of Science (COS), invites applications for a full-time, tenure-track Assistant Professor position in Bioinformatics and Computational Biology, beginning January 2018. Responsibilities: The successful candidate will be expected to teach courses and establish an externally funded independent research program in the area of expertise within the field of bioinformatics and computational biology. Although the potential area of research is broadly defined, candidates with interests in cancer, infectious and cardiovascular diseases, or neurodegenerative disorders are particularly encouraged to apply. It is expected that the successful candidate will synergistically contribute to the existing strengths of the school by collaborating with faculty members in SSB and other departments. Teaching requirements of the position will be consistent with COS and SSB policies and include graduate and/or undergraduate courses in bioinformatics and computational biology.

Required Qualifications: * Ph.D. in bioinformatics, computational biology, or a related field; * Excellence in research demonstrated by publication record in peer-reviewed journals; * Demonstrated potential to establish an independent research program; * Commitment and interest in teaching graduate and undergraduate-level courses; and * Strong commitment to mentoring and supervising graduate students.

Preferred Qualifications: * Postdoctoral experience is highly desirable; * Record of seeking extramural research support evidenced by proposal submission and/or receipt of funding awards; and * Successful team work in a collaborative environment.

About SSB and George Mason University: The School of Systems Biology has 23 faculty members with the wide-ranging interests in molecular biology and bioinformatics. The school also has a diverse research funding portfolio provided by National Institutes of Health (NIH), National Science Foundation, Department of Defense, other agencies, and private industry. Currently, SSB houses several graduate programs, including Ph.D. in Bioinformatics and Computational Biology, Ph.D. in Biosciences, M.S. in Bioinformatics and Computational Biology, M.S. in Biology and several graduate certificate programs. SSB faculty have close collaborations with the researchers from a number of local and regional institutions, including the NIH, Food and Drug Administration, United States Department of Agriculture Research Center, National Institute of Standards and Technology, Naval Research Laboratory, and Inova Health System among others.
