Requirements

The Student Health Insurance Representative (SHI) is responsible for the first impressions of the office and assists students and parents with their questions and concerns from beginning to end. S/he provides customer service responses in writing, over the telephone, and in person. Reporting to the Program Coordinator for Student Health Insurance, the SHI Representative has duties that include but are not limited to:
  • Consults with the Program Coordinator for additional help If necessary concerning student health insurance.
  • Communicates by phone and email in a professional, cooperative, positive, efficient, and helpful style with students, parents, and administrators.
  • Collaborates with other offices including the Office of Billing and Payments, Office of Global Services, Deans offices, and the Student Health Center.
  • Understands and expresses student account entries to interpret purpose of accounting transactions as it relates to credit hours, enrollment and eligibility.
  • Maintains corresponding notes in a tracking system, responding to an average of 4,800 emails during Open Enrollment.


Qualifications
  • Bachelor of Arts in Business, Accounting, Liberal Arts or Information Technology, or equivalent experience
  • Five years of customer service experience demonstrating the ability to learn and utilize new technologies and produce well written business communications
  • Ability to effectively communicate verbally and work cooperatively with a helpful service oriented approach towards others
  • Demonstrated competence with technology utilizing several systems that will include but not limited to Microsoft Office Suite and Google systems
  • Strong interpersonal skills with a decisive, solutions based mentality and ability to work well under pressure
  • Ability to learn and express Open Enrollment health insurance provisions to assist students and parents from beginning to end of an inquiry in writing and verbally
