    Basic Education Requirement

    GS-0401: General Natural Resources Management and Biological Sciences Series
    1. A degree in biological sciences, agriculture, natural resource management, chemistry, or related disciplines appropriate to the position; OR
    2. A combination of education and experience which included courses equivalent to a major, as shown in A above, plus appropriate experience or additional education.

    GS-0101: Social Science Series
    1. A degree in behavioral or social science; or related disciplines appropriate to the position; OR
    2. A combination of education and experience that provided the applicant with knowledge of one or more of the behavioral or social sciences equivalent to a major field in the field; OR
    3. Four years of appropriate experience that demonstrated that the applicant has acquired knowledge of one or more of the behavioral or social sciences equivalent to major in the field.

    Minimum Qualifications

    GS-09: Qualifying Experience at the GS-09 grade level, you must possess one year of specialized experience comparable to the GS-07 which is directly related to the work of this position. Qualifying experience could have been under close supervision and may have been limited to various routine segments of a research, education, or extension program related to plant science, animal science, food safety/food science, nutrition, the environment, social science or youth development. Examples may include performing a variety of recurring professional, scientific, or technical tasks;solving minor problems; performing scientific analysis; or technical writing in support of assigned projects. OR

    You may substitute 2 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to a master's degree, OR a master's degree or equivalent graduate degree that demonstrates the required knowledge, skills, and abilities for this position.

    OR

    You may have a combination of specialized experience and graduate level education as described above, such that the percentage of required experience plus the percentage of required education equals 100%.

    GS-11: Qualifying Experience at the GS-11 grade level, you must possess one year of specialized experience comparable to the GS-09 which is directly related to the work of this position. Qualifying experience should demonstrate progressively more responsible and independent work with all segments of a research, education, extension, or grants program related to plant science, animal science, food safety/food science, nutrition, the environment, social science or youth development, including providing technical assistance; implementing or modifying program/project requirements; performing preliminary reviews or analysis of new program/project data; or presenting scientific or technical information to academic or professional audiences, etc.

    OR

    You may substitute 3 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to a Ph.D., OR a Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree, or a LL.M. that demonstrates the required knowledge, skills, and abilities for this position.

    OR

    You may have a combination of specialized experience and doctoral level education as described above, such that the percentage of required experience plus the percentage of required education equals 100%.




    Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
