The ESCAPE program advances this mission by providing a developmental experience for incoming first-year and transfer students at Georgetown University, often reaching students who otherwise don't connect to a faith tradition on campus. The program ties in various functional areas of the university by virtue of engaging a variety of faculty and staff to offer reflective talks to students on the overnights. ESCAPE provides a critical connection point between students and the many resources offered by our faith communities and chaplaincies on campus.

The ESCAPE Program Director oversees all programmatic, student leadership development, administrative, and financial aspects of the ESCAPE program for freshman and transfer students. They serve as a resource for education and continual development in the mission of Jesuit higher education, providing direction as well as programmatic expertise. Duties include but are not limited to:

  • Develop, manage and serve as a resource to a team of approximately ESCAPE student leaders annually.
  • Foster team unity and motivate leaders to achieve goals of the ESCAPE program.
  • Provide pastoral support and guidance in a one-on-one setting for ESCAPE team leaders, and freshman and transfer ESCAPE participants.
  • Provide expertise in Ignatian/Jesuit spirituality and teachings, Catholic Social teaching, and helping students (and others) to achieve greater personal, spiritual and emotional understanding.
  • Assist with planning and execution of Sophomore, Junior and Senior retreats, or other projects and initiatives.
  • Position ESCAPE as a "gateway" into Campus Ministry by providing guidance for retreat participants as well as leaders to connect to further engagement .opportunities within Campus Ministry post-ESCAPE.
  • Act as primary contact with almost all outside vendors for logistical and programmatic needs; including retreat center, promotional products, marketing resources, and overnight supplies.
  • Oversee communication for all ESCAPE student participants via email correspondence, personal interaction, mailings and phone.
  • Financial responsibility for endowed funds, including meeting budgetary requirements, allocation of funds and working with University Services Business Manager.

  • Requires a Master's degree in higher education, ministry or equivalent
  • 3+ years' experience working with college students, particularly in transitional (first-year or sophomore experience) or retreat programming
  • Must engage in quality one-on-one assistance and student counseling
  • Demonstrated experience with group facilitation, crisis management, and team leadership and management
  • Competency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel), databases, email, web communications and social media required
  • Ability to work effectively and sensitively across difference - a high level of cultural humility is critical to success in this role
  • Ability to learn and absorb new information quickly and creatively
  • A thorough understanding of, and grounding in, Jesuit/Ignatian Spirituality as well as a solid ability to articulate and communicate Jesuit values, higher education mission, and tradition to a variety of audiences
  • Collaborative working style, ability to work effectively within a religiously pluralistic environment
  • Ability to mix with large populations of students and staff as well as engage effectively one-on-one
  • Ability to speak in front of large groups of people and articulate goals and logistics of the ESCAPE Program clearly
