Clinical Psychologist

The City of Alexandria is located in northern Virginia and is bordered by the District of Columbia (Potomac River), Arlington and Fairfax counties. An Overview
The Clinical Psychologist conducts intake assessments, crisis intervention, and individual, group and family therapy with and adolescents experiencing significant behavioral health challenges and their families. Provides evaluative services, including the administration and interpretation of psychological instruments and preparation of reports of the examination. Ensures that evaluative and treatment services conform to best practices. Consults and maintains excellent working relationships with stakeholders within the system of care, i.e. child welfare, juvenile justice, schools. May provide clinical and administrative supervision to senior therapists, case workers and/or graduate students.

The Opportunity
  • Provides psychological evaluations for a variety of purposes, including diagnostic clarifications, educational and treatment recommendation.
  • Conducts substance abuse and mental health evaluations with diagnostic formulations.
  • Develops treatment plans with youth and their families based on their strengths, needs, preferences, and goals.
  • Engages children and families in evidence-based youth led and family driven individual, group and family therapy, including crisis intervention.
  • Collects outcome data and administers satisfaction surveys on a regular basis to the persons served.
  • Prepares a variety of written reports including case notes, initial treatment plans, quarterly treatment updates, clinical/mental health evaluations, status reports and reports to referral agencies.
  • Participates in multi-disciplinary inter-agency workgroups and treatment planning meetings.
  • Collaborates and coordinates with referral sources and stakeholders within the system of care, i.e. school, health, child welfare, juvenile justice.
  • Provide services and maintain medical records in accordance with an accreditation body, Department policies, licensing and Medicaid regulations.
  • Supervises case worker and psychology graduate students in accordance with accreditation body, Department policies, licensing and Medicaid regulations.
  • Other related duties as assigned.

The Center for Children and Families (CCF) provides programs and services for Behavioral Health, Domestic Violence & Sexual Assault, Child Welfare & Child Protective Services, Early Childhood and Youth Development. CCF provides compassionate, collaborative and effective person and family-centered services based on best practices. Our teams support self-determination, safety, recovery and resiliency for Alexandria children and all residents affected by abuse, neglect, mental illness, intellectual disabilities and substance abuse disorders.

Minimum & Additional Requirements

Possession of a Doctoral Degree in clinical or counseling psychology. Must be licensed or license eligible (defined as having met all of the didactic and supervisory requirements of the Board) with the Commonwealth of Virginia as a Clinical Psychologist. Employees must possess a valid driver's license issued by the state of their residence.

Preferred Qualifications

Bilingual (English/Spanish) skills; At least three years of post-license experience providing direct treatment services with youth with behavioral health disorders; At least two years of experience completing psychological evaluations with children and adolescents; At least two years of experience providing family therapy; At least two years of experience implementing evidence based practices with children, adolescents, and their families - particularly trauma related; At least one year of experience with neuropsychological testing with children and adolescents.

Notes

This position requires the successful completion of pre-employment background checks including but not limited to: FBI/Federal Records Check; VA State Child Abuse/Neglect Registry; Medicare/Medicaid Fraud Database; education/certifications; and driver's license.

Schedule: Flexible 40 hours per week with some evening hours after 5:00PM.
