Requirements

The Edmund A. Walsh School of Foreign Service (SFS) , founded in 1919, is a premier school of international affairs. At Georgetown's Washington, D.C., and Qatar campuses, SFS provides a rigorous education grounded in both theory and practice while instilling the Jesuit values of service. The Director of Development, School of Foreign Service is a critical role within the School of Foreign Service Development team that is responsible for transforming and leading the School of Foreign Service's major gifts fundraising. In partnership with the Dean of the School of Foreign Service and the Senior Director of Development, School of Foreign Service, s/he designs, manages, and executes fundraising strategy and programs for the School. Re porting to the Senior Director of Development, School of Foreign Service, the Director of Development has additional duties that include but are not limited to:

Fundraising Management
  • Cultivates, solicits, and stewards individual, corporate, and foundation major gift prospects.
  • Serves as major gifts officer for approximately 75 - 125 prospects rated at $100K - $1M in order to raise $2.5M - $3M in gifts annually.
  • On a quarterly basis, crafts 5-15 proposals ($100K+), makes 40-50 face-to-face visits, and makes 20-30 substantive moves.
  • Creates and implements an integrated plan for the identification, cultivation, and recruitment of volunteers; solicits volunteers as appropriate and partners with colleagues to strengthen internal collaboration and solicit larger gifts.


Indirect Fundraising Management
  • Oversees volunteer management for School of Foreign Service engagement opportunities.
  • Writes correspondence, acknowledgement letters, briefings, newsletters, publications copy, and other written materials; participates in design and development of print materials for communications, reports, and events.
  • Supports organization and execution of non-fundraising/alumni events.
  • Partners with regional and planned giving development officers to provide information, collateral, and support in soliciting prospective donors ensuring annual goals are met.
  • In partnership with the SDOD, facilitates the stewardship acknowledgement process for pledges and gifts to the School to ensure donors are thanked by appropriate leadership based on gift level; collaborates with stewardship team as a liaison for the School to provide information and input on stewardship reports.
  • Develops focused events for creating prospect awareness, advancing cultivation efforts, raising visibility of School, and providing donor stewardship.


Administrative Management
  • Manages a Development Associate, supervising and evaluating staff including setting performance expectations, coaching, and providing feedback to staff on an ongoing basis.
  • Maintains accurate and up to date data in Advancement's CRM - GU360; oversees gift agreements and gift processing.
  • Submits and tracks requisitions, purchase orders, and other University paperwork.
  • Manages a travel and program budget and supports the professional development activities of staff.
  • Ensures data integrity by verifying the accuracy of gift reports and ensuring the correct gift accounting for School of Foreign Service cost centers.


Leadership Solicitation Staffing & Presidential Briefings
  • Staffs academic leaders as assigned and writes presidential briefings.
  • Participates in OA-sponsored events and training programs.


Qualifications
  • Bachelor's Degree
  • At least 5 years of experience directly applicable development experience, including successful volunteer management and gift solicitation experience
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills and highly developed interpersonal interaction skills
  • Ability to exchange and interpret information requiring understanding to influence others and demonstrated successful leadership
  • Strong negotiating and marketing skills with the ability to lead, motivate, and collaborate with others
  • Ability to give significant attention to detail and keep focused on priorities as set by the Sr. Director of Development for the School of Foreign Service, OA Senior Associate Vice President, University Development, and the Dean of the School of Foreign Service
  • Strong computer skills including all Microsoft applications (Word, Excel, and PowerPoint)
  • Proficiency on PRM and Gambit will be necessary for adherence to prospect management system
  • Strong knowledge of Georgetown University and demonstrated commitment to education preferred
