Job Announcement

This position is in the Neighborhood Networks program within the Child Abuse & Neglect Prevention program. Provides wrap around case management services to families identified by partner elementary schools as needing additional supports. The families are referred by these school partners and participate voluntarily. Works in coordination with the schools and other professionals to assist families and children to increase their natural networks of support, raise the level of family functioning and strengthen family relationships to ensure family stability and promote the success of their school-age children.

This position does the following functions:
  • Conducts a comprehensive assessment of families' strengths and needs;
  • Assesses and addresses immediate crisis needs;
  • Coordinates and participates in family service planning meetings, where the family develops goals;
  • Supports the family by implementing service plans with measurable goals and objectives;
  • Counsels families to overcome barriers and achieve improvement in functioning;
  • Refers, arranges and advocates for services that the family needs;
  • Conducts home visits with families for the purpose of assessment and monitoring of services and outcomes;
  • Works with the family to develop a natural support system which may include both formal and informal supports;
  • Participates in multi-disciplinary team meetings held at Fairfax County schools;
  • Enters client information into computer systems while maintaining client records;
  • Utilizes social work tools such as but not limited to genograms, ecomaps and financial worksheets.
Location: This position is currently located in the North County Region; however, this position may be deployed to another region within Fairfax County if needed.

Schedule: Appointee may be required to works a flexible schedule to include evenings and weekends dependent upon the needs of the program.

Note: This announcement will be used to fill future full-time Social Services Specialist II positions for the Neighborhood Networks program located in other Department of Family Service regions for up to one year.

Employment Standards

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Graduation from an accredited four-year college or university with a bachelor's degree, plus two years of professional social work experience. A master's degree in a related field may be substituted for one year of the required experience.

CERTIFICATES AND LICENSES REQUIRED:
Valid driver's license upon hire.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Fluency in both English and Spanish.
  • Prior experience in child welfare.
  • Experience working in multi-disciplinary teams and networking to access community based resources.
  • Experience with school personnel.
NECESSARY SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:
Appointee must satisfactorily complete a criminal background check, a check of the Child Protective Services Registry, and a driver's record check to the satisfaction of the employer.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
Ability to lift up to 30 pounds. Ability to operate a motor vehicle to travel outside the office to attend meetings, community events and visit clients in their homes not located in areas accessible via public transportation. Ability to communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing. Ability to use automated technology. All duties performed with or without reasonable accommodations.
