Job Announcement

Performs general building maintenance duties which may involve all trades, including plumbing, electrical, carpentry and painting. Duties include the installation and repair of systems furniture, renovation of buildings, repair of roof systems, general maintenance of doors, windows, walls, shelving. Provides installation and repair of work as it relates to plumbing and electrical systems and switches. Participates in preventive maintenance as assigned. Recommends design and suggests change for the betterment of the work area and/or work functions. Serves as lead technician for trades crew that consists of Carpenters and General Building Maintenance Workers. Performs other maintenance duties as requested. Incumbent is considered emergency essential. Flexible working schedule is required as well as overtime, call-back and on-call.

Required Knowledge Skills and Abilities

Considerable knowledge of the equipment, materials, methods, practices and tools used in the building maintenance and construction trades;
Knowledge of the common hazards and necessary safety precautions;
Skill in the use of tools, equipment and materials pertinent to the trades;
Ability to lead a crew of skilled trades personnel;
Ability to read and interpret blueprints, specifications, manufacturer's manuals and shop drawings;
Ability to communicate effectively and follow written and oral instructions;
Ability to estimate time and material needs, and determine when repair is not
economically practical;
Ability to perform routine clerical tasks and basic mathematical computations;
Ability to maintain good interpersonal relationships;
Ability to operate and perform routine maintenance on a motor vehicle.

Employment Standards

Any combination of education, experience, and training equivalent to completion of the tenth grade; plus completion of an acceptable apprentice-level training program in a specific trade with two years of full performance-level experience in building maintenance, repair and/or construction trades work; or three years of full performance level experience in two or more skilled trades related to building maintenance and repair work.

Valid motor vehicle driver's license required for some positions.

The appointee to this position will be required to complete a criminal background check, a driving record check and a pre-employment medical evaluation to the satisfaction of the employer.

Five years of experience in general building maintenance of commercial, historical, leased and residential buildings. Three years in the commercial Plumbing trade. Basic computer skills such as Microsoft Outlook, Word and Excel. Knowledge in other trades helpful.

Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds with assistance of staff or a dolly. Must be physically able to climb both step and extension ladders to various heights. Must be able to bend, stoop, and work in tiring and uncomfortable positions for an extended period of time. All duties performed with or without reasonable accommodations.

Panel interview, hands on exercise will be administered during interview process.
