Job Announcement

Healthy Families Fairfax is a prevention program that offers support and guidance to vulnerable, at-risk pregnant women or parent(s) of a newborn. Eligibility for the program begins with a comprehensive assessment. Schedules home visits to conduct assessments to determine family strengths, need for referrals to community services, including ongoing home visiting services and potential risk(s) for child maltreatment. Completes a written summary of the assessment home visit to include a detailed narrative of scoring and referrals provided to families. Must apply and adhere to Healthy Families America accreditation standards. Must be aware of community resources, eligibility requirements and provide referrals to families who are not referred to the program. Participates in community outreach activities; networking and building collaborative relationships with other service providers; and assist in identifying gaps in services for the most at-risk families.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities include:
  • Experience in working with or providing services to children and families;
  • Ability to establish trusting relationships;
  • Knowledge of infant and child development;
  • Clear and concise oral and written communication skills.
Note: This is a full time grant funded merit position located in the Alexandria Regional office.

Employment Standards

Minimum Qualifications:

Any combination of education and experience equivalent to graduation from an accredited four-year college or university with a degree in one of the social or behavioral sciences and one year of experience in full performance level human services coordination work in public,

private, or volunteer organization.

CERTIFICATES AND LICENSES REQUIRED:
Driver's license required upon hire.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Associate or bachelor's degree;
  • Experience in child welfare;
  • Experience in working with diverse multicultural populations;
  • Experience working on an interdisciplinary team;
  • Experience participating in outreach presentations and/or activities;
  • Experience using automated technology and software applications;
  • Working knowledge and experience accessing community based resources;
  • Fluent in both English and Spanish.

NECESSARY SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:
The appointee to the position must complete a criminal background check, Child Protective Services Registry check, and driving record check to the satisfaction of the employer.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
Ability to operate motor vehicle to attend meetings and community outreach not located in areas accessible via public transportation. Ability to use automated technology to include but not limited to laptop computer, cell phone, internet, etc. Ability to communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing. Ability to lift up to 15 pounds as needed. Ability to conduct outreach presentations to small and large groups alike. All duties performed with or without reasonable accommodations.
