Currently seeking a Surveillance Engineer to support and advise our NAVAIR Platform Offices on how best to integrate Mode S and ADS-B into the existing avionics architecture and review planned and actual system integrations against FAA and Navy requirements documents for compliance.

Essential Job Functions:

Plan, review, test, and recommend for certification Secondary Surveillance Radar Mode S and Automatic Dependent Surveillance - Broadcast (ADS-B) transponder integrations for Naval Aviation aircraft.

Plan and oversee the integration of Mode S and ADS-B transponder functionality into existing avionics architectures on Naval Aviation aircraft.

Evaluate aircraft avionics architectures and determine the optimum Mode S and ADS-B integration.

Document the proposed architecture in a technical report.

Attend SETR events and evaluate compliance.

Conduct laboratory testing on IFF transponder and related equipment as required.

Evaluate test reports and summarize results and recommendations.

Required Skills:

Due to the sensitivity of customer related requirements, U.S. Citizenship is required.

A Bachelor's Degree in Math, Physics, Computer Science or Engineering plus 5 years of experience is required.

Must have an Active Secret security clearance.

A basic knowledge of avionics such as: IFF transponders and antennas, TCAS units, EGIs and GPS receivers, mission computers, and cockpit displays.

Ability to read platform integration drawings.

Ability to understand Interface Control Documents and the ability to interpret MIL-STD-1553B and ARINC 426 messages.

A basic understanding of GPS position and timing performance.

Use of IFF special purpose electronic test equipment, such as AN/USM-708, 45TS, and IFR-6000

Safe and efficient use of standard laboratory electronic test equipment.

The ability to develop and follow written test procedures.

Basic computer skills with ability to use MS Word, MS Excel, MS PowerPoint.

Desired Skills:

At least six years of experience in an engineering position.
