Title IX Coordinator - Office of Institutional Diversity Equity & Affirmative Action

The mission of Georgetown's Office of Institutional Diversity, Equity & Affirmative Action (IDEAA) is to promote a deep understanding and appreciation among the diverse members of the University community to result in justice and equality in educational, employment and contracting opportunities, as well as to lead efforts to create an inclusive academic and work environment. The Office of Institutional Diversity, Equity & Affirmative Action supports the University's mission.

The Title IX Coordinator is an integral part of the team of colleagues and their respective departments established to provide critical resources to members of the University community seeking services and advice to address possible violations of the sexual misconduct policy; the duties of this position ultimately reflects the University's mission of cura personalis and social justice, and demonstrates the University's commitment to fostering a safe and respectful campus climate for all.

The Title IX Coordinator has primary responsibility for coordinating and implementing the University's Title IX compliance efforts, and for helping to strengthen a culture that supports a safe and respectful learning, working and living environment. She/he tracks sexual misconduct incidents on campus, ensures that efforts at resolution, and incorporates incidents into a comprehensive annual report for broad dissemination throughout the University community. Reporting to the Vice President of Institutional Diversity, Equity, & Affirmative Action, the Title IX Coordinator has duties that include but are not limited to:

Review and Resolution
  • Monitors and enforces the University's sexual misconduct policy.
  • Coordinates and executes a prompt, effective, and equitable investigation and timely response to all complaints of sexual misconduct.
  • Implements formal and informal resolution procedures in accordance with regulatory requirements and university policy.


Communication and Supervision
  • Meets with complainants and respondents to provide information regarding available resources, interim measures, and reporting and resolution options.
  • Supervises the Title IX Investigator to ensure timeliness and fairness.
  • Coordinates the work of the Deputy Title IX Coordinators.


Surveys and Training
  • Oversees the development and execution of a sexual misconduct climate survey.
  • Addresses patterns that emerge from a climate survey and implements recommended actions.
  • Leads the University's education, training, prevention, and outreach programs related to Title IX and sexual misconduct and geared toward diverse audiences, including faculty, staff and students.


Collaboration and Compliance
  • Collaborates with the Georgetown University Police Department to ensure compliance with the requirements of the Clery Act and of the Violence Against Women Act relating to sexual misconduct.
  • Works collaboratively with the Athletics Department to ensure equitable opportunities for men and women to participate in intercollegiate athletics and the equal treatment of male and female student-athletes.
  • Works collaboratively with Office of General Counsel, Student Affairs, Student Conduct, Student Health, Human Resources and others.


Outreach and Committees
  • Coordinate Case Management Group.
  • Coordinates Sexual Assault and Misconduct Advisory Committee.
  • Establishes and hosts office hours and other outreach initiatives.


Currency and Best Practices
  • Regularly attends Title IX education programs to understand best practices related to Title IX and sexual misconduct issues.
  • Keeps up to date on legal and social developments at the national level.
  • Attends local and regional meetings of Title IX Coordinators.


Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree - preference for JD or advanced degree in higher education administration or related field
  • 5 years of progressively responsible experience in a legal, student conduct, student life, human resources or similar field - experience working on compliance with Title IX regulatory requirements in a higher education environment is highly valuable


Preferred qualifications
  • Experience with sexual misconduct investigations and prevention
  • Effective project management, organizational and analytical skills
  • Ability to build trust and work collaboratively with students, faculty, staff, administrators, and community partners; and to balance the multiple, varying interests of those diverse stakeholders
  • Excellent verbal, written and interpersonal communications skills, including training and presentation skills
  • Ability to exercise good judgment and to manage sensitive information
  • Understanding and sensitivity to the effects of trauma caused by sexual violence and harassment
  • Ability to prepare and present detailed reports and assessments
  • Proven ability to work independently and to meet deadlines
  • Proven track record of, or demonstrated interest in, working collaboratively with students
