Requirements

Access Services Qatar Support Specialist
This part-time position, based at the Georgetown University Library in Washington, DC, supports the teaching, learning, and research of faculty, students, and staff at the Georgetown University School of Foreign Service (SFS-Q) campus in Doha, Qatar. This position's work schedule is 8 am to Noon, Monday-Friday, in the Access Services Department of Georgetown University Library. This position is responsible for fulfilling Qatar users' requests for books, media, book chapters and articles and expediting delivery of these items. Duties include but are not limited to:

Requests for Main Campus and Qatar Library Materials
  • Process Qatar student, faculty and staff requests for Georgetown University Library articles, book chapters, books and media.
  • Process article and chapter requests for materials not available from library collections through the consortium loan and inter-library loan services.
  • Prepare paperwork and physically package books and media for daily shipments to the SFS-Qatar Library in Education City, Doha, Qatar.
  • Update spreadsheets recording daily activity data.
  • Process Georgetown University Library patron requests for Qatar materials by purchasing the item for the library's collection or requesting through the consortium loan or interlibrary loan services.


Stacks Services Support
  • Sort, shelve, and search for library items.
  • Pull and process library materials for transfer to the WRLC Shared Collection Facility (SCF).
  • Serve as backup for the intra-campus courier delivery service.
  • Assist with project work.


Circulation/Reserves Desk Support
  • Provide regularly scheduled Circulation Desk supervision support.
  • Assign tasks and monitor the work of student employees at the Lauinger Circulation/Reserve Desk.
  • Provide information and basic research assistance at the desk, on line and over the phone.
  • Collect library fee payments using credit card terminal and GOCard register.
  • Serve as backup for the Weekend Supervisor on processing requests for Graduate and Faculty carrels and lockers.
  • Professional Development, Training, and/or Library-wide Initiatives


Requirements
  • College with at least one year of broad-based experience in an academic, research or similar library setting
  • Familiarity with the role of libraries meeting the information needs of students, faculty, and staff; good oral and written communication skills; strong public service orientation
  • Computer literate, familiar with Windows desktop, word processing, Excel, and e-mail software
  • Familiarity with reformatting technologies (Adobe Capture, Adobe Acrobat), searching bibliographic databases and integrated library systems desired
  • Ability to adjust to periods of increased workflow and to work as part of a team in a complex, changing environment; ability to be diplomatic and negotiate disputes; supervisory experience desirable
