Special Events Worker I, Events Management - Facilities Management

Tour of Duty: Tuesday - Saturday, 10:00 am - 6:30 pm

The Special Events Worker performs general and specific cleaning, deliveries, set ups and break downs of equipment, working in accordance with a detailed plan to support academic, social, and cultural events. S/he performs other tasks as assigned including but not limited to custodial responsibilities of floor care, classroom cleaning, restroom cleaning, snow and ice removal, and clean up associated with water or fire damages. Reporting directly to the Special Events Custodial Supervisor, the Special Events Worker has additional responsibilities that include but are not limited to:
  • Sets up and breaks down equipment including tables, chairs, podiums, stages, coat racks and other specialty items for University events.
  • Cleans hallways, entrance ways, stairways and elevators to support University operations as assigned and/or as scheduled.
  • Cleans administrative spaces, laboratories and classrooms.
  • Ensures economic use of supplies and materials to conserve University resources.
  • Draws and/or requisitions supplies, parts, materials needed, and uses such items economically to avoid undue costs.
  • Keeps supervisor informed of supply and material needs to ensure adequate inventory is maintained.
  • Uses safety equipment and protective clothing as required including rubber gloves, aerosol-filter face-masks, and eye protection.
  • Provides supervisors and department management with advice and suggestions regarding work methods, procedures, parts, tools and related matters for the purpose of improving the effectiveness and cost of service.
  • Relates custodial and maintenance problems to supervisor and/or managers in a clear and timely manner.
  • Ensures security of keys, pagers or radios assigned, returning issued items to supervisor on a daily basis; immediately notifies supervisor of any unaccounted for keys, pagers, or radios.
  • Carries a pager or radio while on duty and respond when contacted.
  • As assigned in the absence of the Special Events Worker II, serves as team leader of special event workers.


Requirements
  • HS diploma or equivalent
  • A valid driver's license issued from the District of Columbia, Maryland or Virginia
  • Ability to complete a training program in special events and building cleaning
  • Ability to read and understand product label instructions and to read and understand University policies and procedures
  • Ability to work well as part of a team and independently
  • Preference for at least one year of custodial work experience


The Special Events Worker I is designated an emergency position that requires the incumbent to report to work during inclement weather at the regularly scheduled time, regardless of whether the University is closed, opening late, or closing early.
