Area Business Manager - Center for New Designs in Learning and Scholarship (CNDLS)

The Center for New Designs in Learning and Scholarships (CNDLS) seeks an Area Business Manager to provide essential financial management and administrative functions for CNDLS and closely oversee the Center's operations. At the direction of the Executive Director and the Managing Director, the Area Business Manager develops and manages a complex budget including Operating Funds, Special Funds, and Sponsored projects. He/she plays a central role in the Center's budgeting and financial planning processes. The Area Business Manager also carries out reporting and compliance duties. He/she conducts monthly reconciliation of all expenditures and generates budget to actual reports, year-end projections, and other financial reports. The position serves as Financial Reviewer for all financial and procurement transactions and manages the year-end fiscal closing process. The Area Business Manager provides additional financial management support for a variety of CNDLS special programs, including Online Programs and multiple faculty development programs. Duties include but are not limited to:
  • Revenue forecasting and management; developing MOUs and pricing structures; liaising with program managers/directors on budget management; managing grant disbursements; and reviewing award letters and stipend payments, among others.
  • Serves as one of the primary contacts to University offices, such as Human Resources and University Services.
  • Initiates and processes necessary HR and payroll actions, supports the employee performance review process, and liaises with the University's on personnel matters.
  • Manages contracts and purchasing agreements, and performs general administrative oversight of the office.
  • Has multiple reporting duties to the Main Campus Finance Office (MCFO) and is responsible for the center's overall financial operation.
  • Helps to develop appropriate policies and procedures for CNDLS to ensure compliance with University policies, Main Campus business processes, and audit requirements.
  • Provides analysis that will help establish priorities and resolve issues. The position consults with CNDLS leadership to develop timely problem resolution involving high-level, complex financial and administrative matters affecting CNDLS.


Sponsored Project Management
  • As the designated Department Financial Manager for Sponsored Project, the employee is responsible for financial management of the sponsored project to ensure compliance with sponsor's requirements and University's policies and procedures. Within 30 days after the close of the month (generally the 8th business day after the end of the month)


Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in management, accounting, business administration, or similar fields
  • 5+ years preferred of administrative and financial experience and business office management, preferably in an academic setting or similar environment
  • Proficiency with University systems including Workday Financials and HCM
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Excel
  • Background and experience in general budgeting and accounting principles
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills and ability to establish productive working relationships with a wide variety of people
  • Experience handling sensitive information and personnel matters with discretion
  • Ability to exercise mature judgment, to act proactively and demonstrate initiative, to handle high-pressure situations, and to effectively troubleshoot and problem-solve as needed
  • Analytical and detail-oriented approach to completing tasks
  • Demonstrated ability to handle multiple responsibilities simultaneously and to meet competing deadlines in a complex and multifaceted environment
