Primary Purpose

The Central IRB (CIRB) Initiative is designed to help reduce the administrative burden on local IRBs and investigators while continuing a high level of protection for human research participants. Emmes is seeking 5 Summer CIRB Interns to support the CIRB who are currently enrolled in a Bachelor's or Graduate degree program. Summer Interns will be provided applied learning opportunities with meaningful real-life, hands-on work experience in support of improving public health. This is a full-time paid internship up to 40 hours per week; the internship commences on May 28, 2019 and will be completed on August 16, 2019.

Interns at Emmes perform a variety of administrative review, database and clerical duties of a routine and technical nature to support project staff in conducting IRB reviews. Interns at Emmes are primarily responsible for administrative tasks and the review and distribution of IRB decision letters. Interns may carry out other duties such as data entry along with administrative duties including filing and photocopying. Interns at Emmes are provided with informal and formal mentorship opportunities with a strong focus on building work skills.

  • Responsibilities may include assisting with the generation and review of IRB reviews and letters
  • Participate in inputting data regarding IRB reviews
  • Perform data audits and quality control review of databases, websites and spreadsheets
  • Provide administrative and coordination support including copying, filing and other related tasks
  • Attend and contribute to team meetings, including working to set and achieve project timelines and deliverables
  • Perform other duties as assigned

  • Current enrollment in an accredited degree program;
  • Ability to apply problem solving, organizational and analytical skills both within group and individual settings
  • Demonstrated high attention to detail along with the ability to prioritize workloads
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office 365 products and basic office equipment including but not limited to MS Word, Excel, Copying, and Scanning
  • Strong oral and written communication skills including writing, proofing, and editing
  • Previous IRB experience within an academic or professional work environment desired
