Primary Purpose

The EMMES Corporation is seeking Summer Interns, who are currently enrolled in a STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math) Undergraduate or Graduate College Program. The Summer Intern will be provided applied learning opportunities, with meaningful real-life, hands-on work experiences, which promote Emmes' commitment in supporting important Public Health issues.

This position will support the Bioinformatics Service Group (BSG) which helps clients to interpret complex -omics datasets such as next-generation sequencing data. The BSG provides bioinformatics data processing, management, analysis, and software development services. Disease areas supported by the BSG include cancer, vaccines, and infectious disease research. Supported data include genomics, transcriptomics, proteomics, lipidomics, and metabolomics data.

  • Develop programs for management, analysis and interpretation of -omics data
  • Implement and execute -omics data processing workflows locally or in the cloud
  • Identify inconsistencies and initiate resolution of data problems
  • Write reports to summarize results as needed
  • Other responsibilities as assigned

  • Currently enrolled undergraduate/master's student in Bioinformatics, Computer Science or other STEM field
  • Programming skills in R, Python, or Perl
  • Linux/Unix operating system command line interface experience
  • Experience using Eclipse (or other IDEs) and Version Control software (Git, SVN, or similar) to manage programming code
  • Familiarity with next-generation sequencing or other high-throughput -omics data and open-source bioinformatics tools is a plus
  • Attention to detail
  • Ability to effectively communicate technical concepts
