Job Details

Purpose

Evaluate patients presenting in the ER for admissions or Needs Assessment Center for mental health evaluations. Provide telephonic support to the needs assessment center by triaging telephone calls, scheduling intake appointments and providing resources to callers. Facilitate hospital to hospital transfers and obtain pre-authorizations. Obtain initial insurance authorization for patients who are admitted to BHWS Rockville.

Job Duties

• Perform mental health evaluation and document evaluation in electronic health record. The assessment should include clinical presentation, previous psychiatric history, substance abuse history, medication list, mental status exam, collateral information from appropriate personnel, recommendation for next level of care and provisional DSM V diagnosis
• Review clinical information packets from a referring facility and call the on call psychiatrist to present the case for acceptance or denial
• Develops a working knowledge of the various payer's admission criteria to ensure that the requirements for pre-certification are met and obtains prior authorization for inpatient mental health or partial hospitalization program by providing clinical information to the insurance company via a telephone call.
• Utilize two electronic health record systems to review clinical information, schedule appointments for mental health evaluations, schedule start date for PHP, and pre-register patients for service
• Answer phone calls from other hospitals or individuals in the community inquiring about services and documents call in online tracking log system. In addition, provide clinical intervention during crisis calls.

Required Qualifications & Competencies

• Maryland Licensure: Licensed Graduate Social Worker (LGSW) or Counselor (LGPC), Licensed Clinical Social Workers (LCSW-C) or Professional Counselor(LCPC), PsyD, PhD, or Registered Nurse (RN),
• At least 1 year of emergency room psychiatric clinician experience, or at least 1 year of crisis clinician experience in an outpatient setting, or at least 1 year of related internship experience
• Proficient knowledge and ability to perform mental health assessment, provide clinical interventions, and perform accurate documentation
• Working knowledge of DSM V
• Demonstrates effective communication "hand offs" between providers, shifts, departments/units, etc
• Proficient knowledge and competency to appropriately multi-task and utilize time management skills
• Knowledge of patient rights and laws pertaining to mental health
• Basic use and ability to navigate computer, electronic medical record, telephone, fax machine, photocopier
• College level reading, writing, and math skills

Work Schedule:

Work schedule varies depending on the need of the department. Standard shifts are 12 hrs and primary need is on overnight and weekends. Secondary need is during the week.
