The Quality Improvement/ Quality Adviser II reports to the Leader of the Quality Department. This position works in conjunction with service line or department leadership to develop and implement effective systems to evaluate and improve patient outcomes and quality care; provides leadership in the areas of quality improvement and supports the mission of Adventist HealthCare.

Work Schedule:
  • Identify performance improvement opportunities that support National Patient Safety Goals and/or Adventist's Key Result Areas (KRAs)
  • Facilitate focused quality and performance improvement efforts in accordance with AHC's documented Performance Improvement System (DMAIC) for assigned departments, units and committees. Effectively lead projects and project teams to ensure timely, fiscally sound, quality improvement projects.
  • Able to conduct/ facilitate Root Cause Analysis (RCA) for issues identified that impact the care and safety of the patient (WAH/WOMC only)
  • Monitor and assist in the preparation of status reports for monthly project review (measure monitoring)
  • Share National, Regional, Local and Internal Best Practices amongst team members and departments
  • Conduct Tracers and mini Tracers to ensure compliance with Entity and AHC policy, TJC standards, and CMS/ DHMH regulations
  • Provide one-on-one customer service and area-specific coaching to assigned departments regarding Tracer findings, compliance with regulatory requirements (e.g. TJC, CMS, Maryland Office of Healthcare Quality (OHCQ), Maryland Healthcare Commission (MHCC)) and education/ awareness of Sentinel Events/ alerts from TJC and CMS
  • Partner with TJC Consultant to support continuous accreditation readiness (e.g. Mock surveys, Inter-Cycle Monitoring, Survey, etc.)
  • Advise Service lines and units around efforts that will impact house-wide compliance with core measures.
  • Communication of core measure results to front line staff, and providers and associated Performance Improvement activities as needed.
  • Coordinate with the Quality Services Department to improve core measure rating improvement.
  • Support the Performance Improvement Council by providing written reports and verbal presentations regarding departmental and organizational performance.
  • Monitor Maryland Hospital Acquired Conditions (MHAC) and provide applicable education and guidance regarding avoidance of Potentially Preventable Conditions (PPC)
  • Support Peer Review efforts for nursing and LIPs by providing quality data and educating the nurse leadership and department chairs on quality data, accreditation and regulatory standards.
  • Communicates well with leadership and physicians regarding findings, outcomes and noted trends and comfortable educating physicians
  • Assists Medical Staff Educator with physician educational needs as required
  • Supports activities/tasks resulting from patient safety incidents/ findings.

RN Licensure Preferred (current)

Bachelor's degree; Master's degree and/or years of experience preferred

Project management experience in the health care industry

Teamwork experience working cross-functionally throughout multiple disciplines

Strong knowledge of clinical operations

Demonstrated ability to successfully lead others

Excellent organizational skills as demonstrated by prioritization and multitasking

Excellent communication, relationship building and interpersonal skills

Excellent written and presentation skills

Proficient in Microsoft Office (e.g., Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook)

Strong analytical capabilities

Meeting management expertise

Six Sigma Green or Black Belt/ Lean training preferred

CPHQ preferred
