The Lourie Center for Children's Social & Emotional Wellness is a private, non-profit agency with a mission to improve the social and emotional health of young children and their families through prevention, early intervention, education, research and training. The Lourie Center has four core programs serving children birth through age 12 and their families: Head Start, The Lourie Center School, The Therapeutic Nursery Program and Parent-Child Clinical Services.

The Behavioral Technician:
Takes the lead with any crisis situation, performing restraints or taking a student to the time-out room.
Must be able to physically manage all students at the Lourie Center School in CPI Children's Control Position or Team Control Position.
Wear mobile phone in order to be contacted at any moment to be of assistance to other staff in dealing with a crisis (during work hours)
Consistently monitors all classrooms as well as the de-escalation room and time out room, anticipating and identifying situations which may be escalating for the purpose of early intervention.
Processes behavioral intervention data sheets by proofreading forms, ensuring accuracy of documentation, obtaining appropriate signatures and making copies to send home to parent/guardian, and communicates with parents/guardians to resolve concerns of behavioral communicated through these forms.
Reviews video footage of crisis as needed for training, troubleshooting, and staff development.
Submits weekly quality indicators to the executive director of the Lourie Center and the PI coordinator, submits monthly quality indicators to the Executive Director of the Lourie Center and the Director of Education at the Lourie Center School, submits behavioral interventions or seclusion form to MCPS.
Reviews Adventist HealthCare incident investigation forms with staff members and submits completed forms to the occupational health nurse.
Available to assist in any crisis situation.
Able to skillfully use a wide variety of verbal and non-verbal de-escalation techniques while maintaining a patient and respectful attitude toward students.
Able to maintain professionalism with all staff and students in challenging situations, supporting leadership team regarding any changes in policy.
Assists in classrooms when other staff members are absent.
Collects and analyzes behavioral data to construct behavior plans for each individual student based on CPI crisis development model.
Communicates with transportation staff regarding reports of student behavior on the bus and relays reports to each classroom.
Coordinates meeting with transportation staff to evaluate safety plans for students presenting challenging behavior on the bus.
Interacts regularly with classroom staff and social workers and leadership team involved in crisis.
Demonstrates ability to relate to children at their level of understanding.

Qualified candidates will possess:
Bachelors degree in related field
Active BLS CPR card through American Heart Association
At least 2 years of experience working in the school setting

Work Schedule:

Daily M-F Approx. 8:00-4:30
