    In addition to the basic education requirement listed applicants must meet the specialized experience requirement.  Specialized experience is defined as: Senior level experience planning and/or directing research and program development activities aimed at improving existing price and consumer expenditures such as the Consumer Price Index, Producer Price Index, Import and Export Price Indexes, and the Consume Expenditures Survey.  

    MANDATORY TECHNICAL QUALIFICATIONS (MTQs): In writing your narrative responses to the MTQs, please give examples and explain how often you used your skills, the complexity of the knowledge possessed, the level of people you interacted with, the sensitivity of the issues you handled, etc. APPLICANTS SHOULD LIMIT THEIR RESPONSES TO ONE (1) SINGLE SPACED PAGE PER EACH MTQ WITH THE FONT SIZE NO SMALLER THAN POINT 12. It is recommended that applicants draft their MTQs in a Word document first, then cut and paste into the spaces provided following each MTQ to ensure length requirements. The MTQs are:

    1. Knowledge of and experience in the application of theories and concepts of economics, econometrics, statistics, and economic research methodology, including the ability to understand the nature of unsolved problems and the likelihood of solving them.

    2. Ability to initiate, plan, and guide research projects, effectively communicate results of the projects, and to make fundamental contributions to problems in frontier areas of economic research related to price theory and measurement and/or consumer expenditures.

    3. Demonstrated ability to initiate, direct, and successfully conclude theoretical and quantitative research on exceedingly difficult topics about which little is known.

    Applicants must have one of the following:

    A. Degree: Economics, that included at least 21 semester hours in economics and 3 semester hours in statistics, accounting or calculus;


    B.   Combination of education and experience - courses equivalent to a major in economics, as shown in A above, plus appropriate experience or additional education.  Examples of qualifying experience include (a) individual economic research assignments requiring planning, information assembly, analysis and evaluation, conclusions and report preparation; (b) supervisory or project coordination assignments involving a staff of professional economists, and requiring the evaluation and interpretation of economic information; or (c) teaching assignments in a college or university that included both class instruction in economics subjects and one of the following (1) personal research that produced evidence of results, (2) direction of graduate theses in economics, or (3) service as a consultant or advisor on technical economics problems.

    You MUST submit academic transcripts demonstrating that you meet the qualifying educational requirements for this position.  Because specific course work is required to fulfill the eligibility and/or minimum qualification requirements, you MUST supply transcripts from each academic institution in which the required courses were taken in order to receive credit for that course work.  See the 'Qualifications and Evaluations' section of this announcement for more details.  

    If you do not submit sufficient academic documentation necessary to demonstrate that you meet the eligibility and minimum qualification requirements described in this announcement, your application will be deemed incomplete and you will be ineligible for further consideration for this vacancy.
