    This is a Term Appointment, initial appointment is not to exceed (NTE) 09/26/2020. This appointment may be extended 2 additional years at management’s discretion.

    This Job Opportunity Announcement may be used to fill other Security Assistant, GG-0086-05/06/07, FPL 7 positions within the Census Bureau in the same geographical location with the same qualifications and specialized experience.

    This is an open continuous announcement.  The initial cutoff date for referral is April 8, 2019. After this date additional referral lists will be created as vacancies are available.  This announcement covers multiple positions within the various Directorates of the U.S. Census Bureau through September 30, 2019.

    A trial period may be required.

    This position is ELIGIBLE for telework; additional criteria will be required (e.g., supervisory approval).

    This is a NON-BARGAINING unit position.



    Minimum Education Requirement:

    GG-05:

    4 years above high school

    OR

    Specialized Experience:
    For the GG-05, you must have one year of experience at a level of difficulty and responsibility equivalent to the GS-04 in the Federal service. Experience for this position includes; Experience as an assistant performing a variety of general administrative and clerical duties to assist in responding to customer inquiries.

    GG-06:

    Specialized Experience:
    For the GG-06, you must have one year of experience at a level of difficulty and responsibility equivalent to the GS-05 in the Federal service. Experience for this position includes; Experience performing a variety of general administrative, technical support and clerical duties to respond to customer inquiries related to the investigative process. Experience using office automation to document and track statuses.

    Education cannot be substituted for experience at this grade level.

    GG-07:

    Specialized Experience:
    For the GG-07, you must have one year of experience at a level of difficulty and responsibility equivalent to the GS-06 in the Federal service. Experience for this position includes; Experience assisting Personnel Security Specialist in applying basic principles, concepts, policies, practices and methods of security administration in the functional area of personnel security. Experience in using computers and computer systems in order to apply a variety of software applications and functions to utilize databases and database systems to assist with the security process.  

    Education cannot be substituted for experience at this grade level.

Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment.     You will be evaluated for this job based on how well you meet the qualifications above.

    Your resume, optional cover letter and supporting documentation will be reviewed to determine if you meet the minimum qualifications for the position.     • Skill in reviewing security documentation to determine when inadequate information has been provided to warrant further processing. 
    • Ability to input and manage information into an electronic filing/data system.
    • Knowledge of the security procedures, processes, methods, and techniques applied by the Security Specialist in order to assist in various duties as assigned.
    • Ability to schedule and conduct fingerprinting appointments and obtain supporting documents from the subject to assist the Specialist in determining suitability.
    • Knowledge of personnel security functions within a Security Investigative branch to handle and/or refer inquires to proper source.
