  • MANDATORY QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS

    Applicants must have four (4) years of specialized work experience as a systems administrator or equivalent position. One (1) year of specialized work experience equivalent to the previous level in the federal service is required. For example, one (1) year of specialized experience at the GS-12 level is required to qualify for appointment at the GS-13 level.
    Specialized experience is defined as progressively responsible work experience that has equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities that will enable the individual to successfully perform the duties of this position, and that is typically in or related to the work of this position.

    TECHNICAL SKILL REQUIREMENTS

    Applicants must have:

    1. Advanced knowledge of the Linux operating system;

    2. Extensive experience with Linux servers in production (physical and virtualized) environments;

    3. Advanced knowledge of Network tools and utilities (e.g., Nagios, nmap, ngrep, iptables);

    4. Solid understanding of TCP/IP networks;

    5. Demonstrated experience with production operations, servers, storage, network, systems management, and DR/Business recovery practices;

    6. Demonstrated on-the-job experience monitoring, diagnosing, and resolving complex system and network problems;

    7. Experience and knowledge regarding Server and Network security standards and measures;

    8. Experience supporting enterprise server hardware;

    9. Ability to write and modify existing scripts;

    10. Experience managing environments with 50+ Linux servers;

    11. Experience with implementing stringent system security controls; and,

    12. Understanding of Linux-HA (clustering).


    PREFERRED SKILLS

    Highly competitive applicants will have the following:

    1. Cisco experience/certifications (e.g., CCENT, CCT, CCNA);

    2. Linux certifications/credentials (e.g., GCUX, Linux+, LPIC);

    3. IT Security certifications/credentials (e.g., CISSP, CISA, CISM, SSCP); and/or,

    4. Microsoft Windows/Active Directory experience/certifications (e.g., MCSE, MCSA, MTA)

    Applicants must have an undergraduate degree from an accredited college or university in information technology or a related field of study, and/or equivalent professional certifications and training.

    - All new Commission employees, those converted from a temporary appointment to a permanent appointment, and all rehired former Commission employees are required to serve a one year probationary period. The probationary period begins on the effective date of the employee's appointment, conversion, or rehire.
    - If appointed to a temporary position, management may have the discretion of converting the position to permanent depending upon funding and staffing allocation.
