Fairfax County, the largest local government in Virginia and nationally recognized for its financial stewardship and well-managed programs, is looking for an experienced professional to advance its supplier diversity and environmentally preferable purchasing initiatives. Fairfax County spends $700 million annually on goods and services and its supply chain spans thousands of suppliers across hundreds of sectors. Join our team to improve supply chain sustainability and help realize the County's social equity and environmental goals. Under general supervision of the sustainable procurement coordinator, develops, implements and monitors programs that integrate social and environmental factors to the procurement of goods and services. Advises on strategies to improve organizational policy, procedures and processes. Serves as the frontline liaison between the business community and the procurement function. Assists in the implementation of innovative approaches to increasing small, women- and minority-owned business (SWaM) participation in county and school's procurement. Assists with the development of training and delivers training to 1) county staff regarding environmentally preferable procurement, vendor relations and source development and 2) to the vendor community regarding how to conduct business with the county. Develops educational and outreach content and implements outreach campaigns. Monitors status of sustainable sourcing programs and the achievement of sustainability targets. Monitors primary and second-tier procurement activity related to sustainable procurement and prepares quarterly statistical reports. Provides input on policies and communications impacting outside vendors and supplier diversity reporting. Represents Fairfax County at local and regional sustainable procurement related conferences. Serves as staff liaison to the County Small Business Commission. Plans and manages the county's annual Small Business Forum, a high visibility event which attracts over 50 exhibitors and 250 attendees from across the region. The starting salary for this position will not exceed the mid-point ($77,936.35) of the advertised range.

Note: The assigned functional area of this position is purchasing.

Employment Standards MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Any combination of education, experience, and training equivalent to graduation from an accredited four-year college or university with a bachelor's degree in the field related to the assigned functional area; plus two years of professional work experience within the functional area.

NECESSARY SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:
The appointee to this position will be required to complete a criminal background and credit check to the satisfaction of the employer.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Experience with supplier diversity or supplier outreach programs. Experience with sustainable sourcing, environmentally preferable procurement or related environmental initiatives. Experience developing and delivering training. Experience with change management initiatives. Excellent analytical, written and oral communication skills. Expertise in Microsoft Office applications and other analytical software. Knowledge of procurement and contracting principles, policies and procedures. Certification by a nationally recognized professional purchasing organization.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
Job is generally sedentary in nature; however, incumbent must be able to conduct site visits at county facilities and walk, bend and stoop in diverse work environments. All duties performed with or without reasonable accommodations.
