DescriptionC.N.A-Unit SecretaryJob code: POSITION SUMMARY:The Certified Nursing Assistant/ Unit Secretary is qualified to attend to the basic patient care needs performing duties as indicated by the responsibilities outlined in this job description under direct supervision of the unit charge person. The Nursing Assistant is trained in the delivery of age appropriate care by hospital policy. He/she performs assigned tasks in accordance with the hospital's philosophy, values, standards, policies and procedures.CORE COMPETENCIESAction Oriented -- Taking on new opportunities and tough challenges with a sense of urgency, high energy and enthusiasm.Collaborate -- Building partnerships and working collaboratively with others to meet shared objectives.Customer Focus -- Building strong customer relationships and delivering customer-centric solutions.Nimble Learning -- Actively learning through experimentation when tackling new problems, using both successes and failures as learning fodder.Demonstrates Self-Awareness -- Using a combination of feedback and reflection to gain productive insight into personal strengths and weaknesses.Communicates Effectively -- Developing and delivering multi-mode communications that convey a clear understanding of the unique needs of different audiences.Decision Quality -- Making good and timely decisions that keep the organization moving forward.MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:Assists nursing in carrying out the nursing plan of care:Completes vital signs and reports to nursing within 1 hour of scheduled time.Assures that I/O's are collected and reported to nursing 30 minutes prior to end of shiftAssures that all assigned baths are completed within the shift assigned.Immediately notifies nurse of any significant changes in patient condition.Ambulates and assists patient with ADLs (turning, feeding, etc.) within assigned time frameMonitors patient for signs of skin breakdown; communicates to nursing staff as indicated.Obtains and records patient height and weight as indicated.Keeps patient bed low, locked and side rails up when patient is in bed.Checks patient food trays for accuracy of diet specifications; prepares patient's environment for eating; assists the patient in preparation to eat their meal (sitting patient up in bed or chair, washing patient hands, and cleaning the bedside table. Reports patient's intake to nurse.Returns all equipment to SPD by end of shift.Responds to call bells promptlyPerforms clerical duties related to procedures, as it relates to a patient care unit:Checks food trays within 10 minutes of arrival to floor (if appropriate for unit).Ensures that all charts are supplied with appropriate forms for documentation.Relays messages to appropriate caregiver within 5-10 minutes of receiving message.Prioritizes orders in the order entry system in a timely and accurate manner.Ensures that all reports are posted in a timely and accurate manner.Ensures that diet/tube feeding changes are completed and credited every shift.Helps to promote stewardship of resources and environment of care:Assists with the monitoring of refrigerator / freezer logs.Cleans refrigerator, microwave and other areas when indicatedMaintains the integrity of the Pyxis Machine and inventory through pushing the \"take\" button,Is respectful of linen supplies and mindful of appropriate usage of pads, etc.Protects the environment of the patient care area / hospital campus from vandalism and litter.Consistently uses appropriate \"scripting' as instructed when communicating with patients and their families.Models service excellence in caring for patients providing \"above and beyond\" service and consistently exceeding patients and families expectations.Strives to anticipate the needs of patients and takes initiative to meets / exceed patient's needs or wishes.Responds to call light promptly.Acts as a \"team player\" assisting co-workers regularly when time permits.Supports the nursing plan of care by providing cardiac monitoring of all telemetry monitored patients:Reports changes in rhythm and life threatening arrhythmias when noted.Ensures alarms are set at appropriate limits at all times.As required per unit, applies electrodes in accordance with current policies.As required per unit, ensures current documentation of telemetry strips are place in patient record.Notifies charge nurse and Bio-Medical Department immediately of technical difficulties with telemetry monitoring system..RequirementsA.
