  • PLEASE NOTE: This is not a developmental opportunity, this position may be filled at the GS-05, GS-07, or GS-09 grade level depending on applicant qualifications and organizational requirements. The individual selected for this position may be considered for promotion to a higher grade without further competition upon meeting all legal and regulatory/program requirements.

    KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES (KSAs): Your qualifications will be evaluated on the basis of your level of knowledge, skills, abilities and/or competencies in the following areas:
    1. Knowledge of basic occupational theory, principles, concepts, and practices in the technical area of Information Protection.
    2. Skill in applying basic occupational theory, principles, concepts, and practices sufficient to perform student trainee assignments.
    3. Ability to follow instructions and guidance to complete assigned tasks and communicate information to others in oral or written format.
    4. Ability to analyze problems, identify significant factors, gather and interpret pertinent data, and apply established rules and procedures in order to recommend effective solutions.
    5. Ability to learn and apply basic investigative techniques to accomplish work in the subject-matter field.
    6. Ability to gather and analyze basic facts, information, and data, and draw conclusions.

    PART-TIME OR UNPAID EXPERIENCE: Credit will be given for appropriate unpaid and or part-time work. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week.

    VOLUNTEER WORK EXPERIENCE: Refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service Programs (i.e., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student and social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge and skills that can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment.You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

    To qualify for a GS-05: Completion of 4 academic years of post-high school leading to a bachelor's degree or equivalent degree.

    To qualify for a GS-07: Completion of 1 full academic year of graduate level education; or Eligibility under the Superior Academic Achievement Provision and completion of a bachelor's degree.

    To qualify for a GS-09: Completion of 2 academic years of graduate level education or master's or equivalent graduate degree.

    NOTE: You must provide transcripts showing you currently are in progress of your degree and/or letter of enrollment from registrar's office. Your name and degree plan must be on the transcripts and letter of enrollment provided.

    FOREIGN EDUCATION: Education completed in foreign colleges or universities may be used to meet the requirements. You must show proof the education credentials have been deemed to be at least equivalent to that gained in conventional U.S. education program. It is your responsibility to provide such evidence when applying.

    This is a Pathways Student Internship opportunity. The Internship offers valuable work experience directly related to your academic field of study. This is your opportunity to begin a successful Federal civilian career with the United States Air Force. As an Intern, you will be given the opportunity to gain the knowledge, skills and abilities needed to pursue a successful career with the US Air Force and upon completing your degree and meeting conversion eligibility requirements, be eligible for placement in a permanent position. However, it is important to remember that eligibility for conversion does not guarantee you will be offered a permanent position. The length of Internship is normally two years or when you complete your academic program and degree requirements.

    This internship is to provide a learning opportunity for a student enrolled in a field of study relating to their career path, to enhance their future goals and improve their knowledge with work experience in a working environment

    The entire period served under the Internship Program counts as the participant's trial period.

    Interns may work part-time or full-time schedules

    NOTE: U.S. citizenship is required for a noncompetitive conversion to a permanent or term appointment with the Department of the Air Force.

    • Successfully complete an academic course of study with a GPA of at least 2.95 (GPA 3.1 for certain engineer positions)
    • Complete a minimum of 640 hours of work experience under the Internship Program
    • Meet the OPM Qualification requirements for the position the intern may be converted to
    • Maintain acceptable performance
