We are currently seeking a Molecular Biology Laboratory Technician to support the National Institutes of Health in Bethesda, MD. This is a long-term contract position which offers: - Competitive salary with comprehensive benefit package - Opportunity to work at NIH, world's foremost medical research center - Learn more about what Kelly can do for you at www.kellygovernmentsolutions.com TASKS/SERVICES : The contractor shall: (1) Perform upkeep and supervision of Laboratory of Molecular Genetics (LMG) human DNA samples, sample inventory and the -80C freezer where samples are stored. (2) Transfer all incoming human gDNA samples from 1.5 ml. Eppendorf tubes to 1.5 ml. barcoded tubes as required. (3) Enter barcoding on the tube into Excel file of human DNA samples. (4) Work with staff on the LMG mouse colony. (5) Maintain a subset of cages in mouse colony (ranging from 200 to 300 cages). (6) Update and maintain laboratory notebooks and databases. (7) Isolate mouse gDNA from tails, ear punches or other tissues using a Promega Maxwell robotic extraction instrument. (8) Genotype using polymerase chain reaction (PCR) and gel electrophoresis and or Sanger sequencing to document genotypes of mouse strains in the LMG colony and for urgent experiments in the laboratory. (9) Provide genotyping data results to investigators in the LMG. (10) Assist as needed with mouse imports, exports, transfers and cryopreservation events. (11) Update and maintain laboratory records of genotyping data, gDNAs and antibodies in Excel databases in the LMG and or in CERF (online laboratory notebook). (12) Assist as needed with supply inventory, stock rotation and or ordering of routine supplies through POTS (online purchasing tracking web-based application) (13) Attend weekly laboratory meetings and participate in laboratory meetings. (14) Attend weekly journal club meetings and NIDCD seminars. REQUIREMENTS : The contractor must have: (1) Bachelor's degree in Biology or equivalent related experience. (2) Minimum of one (1) year of experience in a research laboratory environment performing multi-step detail-oriented tasks; familiarity with basic genetics concepts, inventory/supply management, and long-term records maintenance experience preferred (3) Experience working in a mouse facility, which includes handling, restraint, and basic understanding of mouse reproductive biology (4) Strong communication skills, both oral and written.
