Occasional travel - Some travel required to visit operations, advise managers on-site in work units throughout the United States, to include visits to slaughter houses or other FSIS regulated facilities, district offices, and other sites as appropriate.

    Time-in-Grade: Applicants for this position must have 52 weeks of time-in-grade at the next lower level in the Federal service (GS-14) by 11:59 P.M. Eastern Time of the closing date of this announcement.

    Specialized Experience; In order to meet the specialized experience requirement, you will need to have completed 52 weeks of progressively responsible specialized experience at the next lower grade level (GS-14). This requirement must be met by 11:59 P.M. Eastern Time of the closing date of this announcement.

    Specialized experience at the GS-14 level is defined as experience successfully leading an efficient and effective strategic and operational planning and reporting framework program for a large regulatory organization to ensure compliance with Federal law, policy and guidance. Overseeing a complex evaluation and survey program, including management of coding, conducting, and delivering comprehensive data analysis/reports, and associated recommendations for program or process improvements. Overseeing internal control planning, oversight and compliance.

    Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional, philanthropic, religious, spiritual, community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

    There is no educational substitute for specialized experience at the GS-15 grade level.

    - Subject to one-year supervisory/managerial probation period (unless prior service is creditable). New USDA supervisors must successfully complete all components of the required new supervisor training program before the end of their probationary period.
