    GS-12: Applicants must possess at least one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-11 level in the federal sector.

    Examples of specialized experience related to this position is experience which demonstrates your experience reviewing facility designs, inspecting facilities where sensitive material will be located, ascertaining the use to be made of material in the organization, who is to use it, and how it should be protected. Experience evaluating the effectiveness of existing security practices; recommending the type of control requirements, procedures, and facilities needed; assuring that organization personnel are adhering to established policy and practices; and recommending appropriate action to correct deficiencies. In addition, experience which has equipped you with extensive knowledge of a wide range of physical security concepts, principles and practices to independently review, analyze and resolve difficult, complex security problems; extensive knowledge of and experience with state-of-the-art equipment used to protect storage facilities where sensitive data will be located (i.e., fencing variations, alarm and detection devices, closed circuit television, badging equipment, etc.); skill in or experience utilizing a variety of oral and written communication methods and techniques to provide physical security advice and training; provide interpretations and guidance to management officials and other security specialists; participate in public briefings and to prepare written reports.

     

    National Service Experience (i.e., volunteer experience): Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

    The Office of Personnel management (OPM) must authorize employment offers made to current or former political appointees.  If you are currently, or have been within the last 5 years, a political Schedule A, Schedule, C, Non-career SES or Presidential Appointee employee in the Executive Branch, you must disclose this information to the Human Resources Office.
